Title: Joseph Rogers /Edwards 1922 Cudworth, Barnsley
Post by: ReeRee on Saturday 20 August 11 19:52 BST (UK)
I have been doing family research for many years now.  I left England in the early eighties and sometimes I get rather challenged trying to trace recent ancestry more than the last century  being in another country.

I am now on my ex-husband's tree and his surname is Rogers, his father was George Rogers (who married Edna Wilby in the early fifties) and Joseph Rogers was the father of George. George was born between 1924 and 1928 but again I cannot find any records.

All I have found is Joseph Rogers in November 1922 as a leading shunter with Midland Railroad in Cudworth near Barnsley - and I know he did work there as a shunter.  Joseph may have been married to a Dorothy but I am not sure and I'm not sure if they came from down South.

I am just plain old stumped on this one. Can someone please help or point me in the right direction please. I don't want anyone to do my work but I definitely need help gerring over the threshold with this one!!!

Thank  you

Hi Ree Ree

Do you know where George was born - the town?
And did he have any siblings?   (You might have to PM this information if you know names - we can't discuss living or possibly living people here in the public forum).

Cheers
AMBLY

Title: Joseph Rogers/Edwards

Got a bit further and it's getting interesting.

Joseph Rogers was not Joseph Rogers as he was Joseph Edwards on his marriage certificate. I found him marrying Dorothy Waltho in St Albans January 12, 1924, aged 31 and he says he's living in Cudworth and working as a Leading Shunter. Was he born in 1892 or 1893?

They then have three children that I have found on BMD and also their baptism records and all are named Edwards.

I also have his death certificate and there are actually two records (same reference) and the one I got says, Joseph Rogers otherwise Joseph Edwards. I imagine the other one says the same. The witness is J.W Rogers, his son. Hmmmm. It says he was born around 1893.

I have the birth certificate of George Edwards (my late father-in-law) and I also have his marriage certificate from 1951 and he's George Rogers.

On reading I find that anyone can call themselves anything but not on a legal document but it appears that summat happened in order for all the kids to be Rogers later in life.

What do you think of this mystery?
