Post by: baltibluebird on Thursday 18 August 11 16:25 BST (UK)
Hi

Please can someone do a look up for me as follows:

Florence May FAULKNER
Dec Quarter 1907

THe reason I am asking is that on FreeBMD there are only 3 entries appearing, 2 brides, one groom.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Florence's entry looks clear as Page 25.

there are a few males whose page numbers havent transcribed well in the DEC Q of 1907.

Have you tried looking for Florence to see who she is with in the 1911 census.

What is her Birthplace and DOB?

Added: Daniel Whiting's looks like Page 25 - even though FreeBMD has it as 23.

Hi

Omega 1 - Hi again and thanks for the confirmation!  :)

Tom - I have looked for surname Johnstone (nothing) and Whiting (2 entries both born within 1 year of each other but neither with a name Daniel living there)

The Florence May Faulkner I am looking for was born in June quarter 1882, Maidstone, Kent.

Thanks in anticipation ...

will have a look around.

I can see no children of either surname with Mothers name Faulkner in the Sussex area 1911 onward.

This information excludes the Daniel Whiting born abt 1883 from Ore, Sussex ....

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
An English man, Daniel Whiting, aged 25, a butcher by occupation, who was born abt 1883 in Hastings, Sussex, England arrived at New York, New York, USA on 11 Oct 1908 having departed from Southampton, England and having travelled on board the ship "St Louis".  He was travelling with his 22 year old wife, named Rose Whiting and the address of their nearest friend or relative was given as 14 Calvert Rd, Hastings.

Rose May's marriage registration was also 1907 last quarter, Hastings, Sussex, 2b 25

Nice find OBF :)

I think the 2 Daniel`s are one of the same as Ore is a part of Hastings.

Kind Regards

Hi Westwood

I found the following information in Army papers but suggest you download them yourself from Ancestry or anywhere else you can find them, as I had trouble reading them. There were quite a number of pages, but I have gleaned enough to be able to help with your question plus provide names of the children....

Army Pension papers for Robert Thomas Johnstone of Royal Artillery, who was born in the parish of St Mary's Hastings, sussex, a shop porter, aged 18 who signed up in May 1896 (unless my eyes decieve me):
Father: Robert Thomas Johnstone of 16 Nelson Road, Hastings
Mother: Mary
Brother: William
Sister: Jessie
Wife: Florence May, 59 Blossomgate, Ripon, Yorks
Place and date of marriage was 29 10 07 at Blackland, Hastings (splodgy writing so suggest original should be checked)
Florence and Robert's children their birthplaces and dob's were :
Jessie Florence 21?/7/08 D???ington [very splodgy writing]
Alice Kaye 20/12/09 Cranbrook
Jessie Gertrude 6/12/12 ?o?don
Robert Henry 3/11/17 R?pon ?

Added later - I have rechecked the children's names and made some mistakes; I think they should read, in the same order:
Florence Jessie
Alice Kate
Jessie Gertrude
Robert Henry

Thanks Omega - I can be quite useful when I'm not spending my time sorting out the problems caused by the builders.   ;D
I imagined that he probably just wrote Hastings on his form rather than specifically writing the name of his birthplace within its district.

some excellent work there. The BMDs check out perfectly. Wonder where they were in 1911?

Hi Tom

Thanks  :), and if you are offering to look, they might have been somewhere between Cranbrook and ?o?don.  Examination of the army pension records may also indicate whether or not Robert was in England or not, but I have drawn a blank so far by looking for the children born before 1911 via the 1911 records on FamilySearch.

Hi again Westwood,

Have you checked whether Florence or her children were with either of her parents in 1911?  With the information not being to hand about who her parents were, I have not looked for them.  (Did suspect tho that Florence's dad might have been the Robert  Faulkner who died previously in Maidstone.)

Hi

Sorry for not coming back sooner but I have not had a chance to look at my tree and the great info you have given.

So, a big big thank you to OBF for all your hard work

Will work my way through the information you have all kindly given over the last few days since I originally posted my first message and come back and report with anything additional I find.

Once again, a huge big thank you for all your help!  :)  Its really great that RCs can break down walls that I can't seem to even fathom!

Hi

Here is an update:

Florence's parents were William Faulkner (c1855-1889) & Mary Ann Smith (married names, Faulkner, Sayer then Bailey).  She was born in June quarter 1882, Maidstone, Kent.

I have found the 4 children's births:

Florence Jessie 1908 Amesbury, Wiltshire
Alice Kate 1909 Cranbrook, Kent
Jessie Gertrude 1912 Alton, Hants
Robert Henry 1917 Ripon, Yorks

I have also found Robert Thomas Johnstone in the 1891 census which gave his parents and then subsequently, this family (not Robert Thomas) in 1901 Hastings.

So far I have not been able to find Florence in the 1911 census and she is not with her mother (as I found her a couple of days ago).

Thanks once again for all your hard work, it really is appreciated!

Hi Westwood,

It has been my pleasure.

If you get round to obtaining the army pension records at the minimum, you will see the length of service - don't rely on my eyesight but at one point I think he signed up for another twenty years which would explain his absences.  Therefore possibly not worth breaking a leg looking for him elsewhere.

Good luck with your genealogy travels.
