Could anyone possibly help me with finding the parents of
John BLOOMFIELD, born 1796 in Thornham , Suffolk
who Married Elizabeth also born 1796 in Wenham Magna?
-
Hi Chris. Have you checked
Freereg, the Norfolk Baptism Project and the Familysearch Pilot site?
Can't see him on freereg, and the Nfk Baptism Project records are too late for John's baptism, but Thornham All Saints is included for any later baptisms you might be looking for ...
Did you get names, approx dates and places of birth from the census? Do you know name and approx year and place of birth of their first child?

Sorry all - completely misread original post - saw "Thornham" and automatically assumed Norfolk. Apologies.

Hi Chris
Thornham would actually be Thornham Magna or Thornham Parva - both parishes are near Eye in the north of the County. The Wenhams are much further south nearer the Essex border.
I found this entry on the IGI:
John BLOOMFIELD 24 June 1795, Thornham Magna, Suffolk. Parents James BLOOMFIELD & Susan.
There are not that many Bloomfield burials in Thornham Magna but these are the ones listed on the Suffolk Burial Index (SFHS):
Stephen BLOOMFIELD 15 Oct 1823 age 90
Elizabeth BLOOMFIELD 8 Feb 1825 age 88
James BLOOMFIELD 18 Jun 1826 age 53
Hannah BLOOMFIELD 6 Aug 1857 (abode Wickham Skeith)
Stephen BLOOMFIELD 12 Apr 1870 age 62
Elizabeth BLOMFIELD 18 Jan 1800 inf
John BLOMFIELD 30 Jul 1804 34 yrs sm
Walter BLOMFIELD 1 May 1842 3
Aaron BLOMFIELD 13 Jan 1850 80
Susan BLOMFIELD 25 Mar 1853 80
Jeremiah BLOMFIELD 27 Jun 1871 24 (Abode Eye UH)
So the James & Susan buried there were born c1773 - just about the right ages to be parents of John.
Hope this may be of help

ps. There are 2 entries on the IGI for this chap - as stated by Allan in the name of BLUMFIELD & the one I found BLOOMFIELD. Both are submitted entries but the BLOOMFIELD entry also records other siblings Mary 1797, Elizabeth 1799-1800 & Sarah 1801.

Many thanks to everyone whos helped me on this, much appreciated. Could anyone tell me how I can confirm the info regarding John and his parents? Presumably i need to check parish records.

I think we need to be a little careful here as there are 2 John Bloomfields on Census entries born c 1796, Thornham, Suffolk, and one born c 1797, Benhall, Suffolk.
1841 Census John/Elizabeth have Children;
George, 15
.............. (rest as per 1851)
HO107/1034/16/St Mary Holton
1851 there are at home;
Thomas, 25
Henry, 23
Mary, 21
William, 19
Mark, 18
Elizabeth, 16
Harriett, 14
Susan, 12
All born Holton
Also in household THOMAS age 11mths, Grandson
HO107/1978/132/3
1861 John is born c 1796, Stoke Ash, Suffolk (according to Genuki 0.9miles SE of Thornham)
RG9/1159/170/2
I think you need to establish all Children born to John/Elizabeth to find the naming pattern.
As the eldest Child on census entries is born c 1826 there are others born c 1817-1826 who may hold a clue to correct Parents names for John.
Eg other Submitted Records;
John BLUMFIELD, 16 Oct 1796, Thornham Magna, Suffolk
Parents, William BLUMFIELD and Honour ARBON
John BLOOMFIELD, 24 Hune 1795, Thonham Magna, Suffolk
Parents, JAMES/SUSAN

Hi Trish, Im attempting to get my brain around this and it hurts now!! ;D
Ive been on YiWins site to see if anything links up to attempt to find out if i'm descended from the John Bloomfield from Thornham Magna (which i've followed back) or the John Bloomfield from Benhall. Both, as have already been pointed out to me by yourself and Allan have wives called Elizabeth. But i cant find any info on the Benhall line to link up so, Im inclined to go with the John from Thornham Magna only because one of the census files shows a John Bloomfield born 1796 as the father of Mary whom in turn gave birth (presumably) to Thomas Bloomfield illegitimately.
But in order to be more sure, my way of thinking is that I need to rule out the Benhall line. Im not having much luck finding the info i need to do this.
I cant find any info regarding John Bloomfield married to Honour Arbon!
am I on the right train of thought here?
To complicate matters, an 1841 Census that I have shows 3 John Bloomfields born 1796, one in Stow, another in Thetford and one in Woodbridge but i dont have any way of checking these.
Can anyone suggest how I can narrow all this down to confirm the John Bloomfield that Im looking for?
Im stuck! ???

Hi Chris-B,
Let me understand here;
Your starting point was THOMAS Bloomfield born c 1850?
Possible Son of Mary Bloomfield born c 1830?
Are you descended from this Thomas?
Do you have his M/C and no Father named?
His Birth Cert which matches address of Mary in 1851 Census ?
If this all matches the John Bloomfield born c 1796, Thornham Magna is your one.

Many thanks everyone for your help on this. I spent some time in the Ipswich records office and after some time found that Thomas Blomfield, my Gt Gt grandfather was the illigitimate child of Mary Blomfield who continued to live with her mother and father John and Elizabeth. There was no Bastardy order so for whatever reason Mary didnt go after the father for money, but it would of course be nice to know who the father was.
