Title: Firefox6
Post by: Redroger on Tuesday 16 August 11 20:18 BST (UK)
I have just been offered this update while browsing Rootschat. If it works, then I shall be back soon, if not, I will try to gain access to seek assistance. They strongly recommended it, so that sounds ominous.

I'm still using Firefox 3.6 and got an update pop-up as well, although that is to 3.6.2 or something.

Well I'm back. It tells me that AVG Safe Search is incompatible but when it becomes compatible it will be re enabled.

I have just downloaded FF6 and initially found one or two hiccups and considered reverting back to FF5.1
However, on reflection I shut down, re-started and touch wood, everything is proceeding as normal.  I don't know whether it is me, but this latest version seems faster.

FF6 was promised for September so Mozilla are a couple of weeks early!

I am watching with interest.....  Official release of  Version 6 ...
To download ...or Not to download .... that is the question .  ??? ??? :-\
Think I might wait till version 8 comes out at the end of the year .... supposed to be 20% faster than Version 5 ...

Firefox 6 has disabled a number of add-ons for me; including McAfee Site Adviser and the Ancestry Viewer  :o

Maybe these disablements are the reason it's faster? I wonder if it will still be as fast when the disabled add ons are made compatable again?

If you look at the FileHippo site at yesterday's, 16 August, downloads, and open the Firefox 6 download and go to 'comments', you will find some interesting observations.  There do not appear to be many reports of problems with add-ons.

Also view Firefox,s own site.

Which operating system do you use? Is it XP or an earlier system?

i`ve been on version 6 for a few weeks now, I`m on the Beta update so receive most updates in advance of general release.

To date I haven`t had any problems and ALL my add-ons have & still function.

O/S Win7 64bit.

You should really have updated as there have been several security fixes.

Can these differences with the same or similar operating systems be due to one person not taking all relevant updates?

I'm delighted to say the Ancestry enhanced image viewer now works for me, it never would before in Firefox! No more opening Ancestry in IE and removing protected mode to download images!

Strangely though, it's worked for a while on ancestry.com in Firefox.

The irrationality of computers in an area of science which should be completely logical never ceases to amaze me!

After updating to Firefox 6 on my laptop, although I could access Ancestry fine, it was impossible to save images - after being prompted to right-click and 'Save As' on opening them again the screen was just full of wing-dings type gobbledy-gook.  So being a bit of a thicko, I decided to do a system restore to the previous day, and although it reverted to Firefox 5, nothing I did would persuade it to open again.  So eventually uninstalled it, but don't want to install version 6 again, as presumably I'll just have the same problems with saving Ancestry images.  The Ancestry images are OK in IE and can be saved, but I find it clunky, so then found myself downloading Google Chrome... Oh what a tangled web!

Hi

So you have nothing to lose, go to Firefox 7.

Rightclick/save works beautifully.
Just about to see if enhanced viewer is available (and works)

Hi
I am also unable to use the enhanced viewer with Firefox 6.

In the past I have been able to manually add a file downloaded from the ancestry website but this doesn't work either and still no plugins/add ons from firefox.

Anyone have had any suggestions?

kind regards
maidmarion  :)
