I attended the final (because of their age) Burma Star Veterans service at Derby Cathedral yesterday.
The organiser (also a veteran) , Eric Frearson, told me that over the years he had traced all but one of the bomber crew he was with in Burma 1944/45.
The man in question was/is Flight Sergeant 1437382 S Roberts, 354 Squadron R.A.F. and he was demobbed in 1945 to:-
8 Hughes Row , Bethania Rd, Acrefair, Wrexham.
Can anyone with local knowledge shed any light on this person please.
Thank you
Stuart

Do you have a first name for this S Roberts Stuart?

Unfortunately after making a phone call it seems my contact with the local RAFA is on holiday till the weekend.

I will ask my contact from the local RAFA whether he recognises the name after he returns from holiday next weekend.

Just a little update on this,I'm told by his sister-in-law that my contact will not now return from holiday till Monday now at the earliest.

I've now spoken to my contact in the local RAFA.Whilst he has no immediate recollection of the Flight Sergeant S.Roberts he said he'd make further enquiries amongst his own contacts.Almost the only perhaps useful observation he made was that this S.Roberts was extremely likely to have been in his early twenties when the War ended, given the sad and rapid turnover in such crews.

Just looking at the address you gave again it should read;
8 Hughes Row,Bethania Road,Acrefair,Wrexham.
Acrefair being a small village some six miles from Wrexham.

William,
Thank you for your help and communication. The address amended.

My contact from the local RAFA has delivered the goods here.In fact he was speaking to Stanley Roberts's brother-in-law last night!
Your Flight Sergeant was born in Acrefair in 1923.He married in 1948 and emigrated to Canada where he died a few years ago.

William,
Thank you very much for your help and that of your contact.
I will pass the information on to Eric Frearson this evening, he will be grateful I know.

Hello from Canada Stuart, I'm Stan's son Peter. My dad passed away in January 1974, following an aneurism. Following his demob, Stan worked in Birmingham before emigrating to successfully work his long way up to become VP of a major NA company. He attended a veterans meeting only once that I know of, in Toronto sometime during the mid/late 60's. I have no memorabilia of his war service, and he certainly never talked about it! But if you or Eric are still active on this site, any information regarding his wartime activity you may have photos or link to such would be so very appreciated.

Hello Peter,
Pleased to hear from you. I have no items to pass on as I was the middle man for Eric.
I will try and contact him to see if he can help at all but in the meantime send me your email address by private message just in case anything crops up.
