Hello, I have done a far bit of research on the Gielty family tree, but I am indeed in need of more help, I really hope I am on the right track!
Starting from John Gielty born 1927, Dookinella, Achill Island, Mayo. Died 2001, Preston, Lancashire, England. He came from a family of 5, he had one sister, 3 brothers.
Father was John Gielty born 1893? somewhere in Achill, married to Mary Toolis, born 1895,somewhere in achill, died 1957, somewhere in achill. John came from a family of 9
Father of John was Anthony Gielty?? born 1861, married Mary O'Malley/Malley, born 1864,somewhere in achill, died 1951, somewhere in achill.
Anthony had 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Father of Anthony was John Gielty, born 1822, somewhere in achill, died 20th May 1892, Dooagh, Achill, Mayo. John was married to Celia Gallagher. No further details known.
If anyone can help me fill in the blanks, or is studying the same line your help would be muchos appreciated ;D

Geilty is not a common surname... but there is a good match for John's birth on the BMD Index the year after you mentioned :
Name: John Gielty
Registration district: Westport
Event type: Birth
Registration quarter and year: Apr-Jun 1928
Mother's maiden name: Toolis
Volume : 4 / Page : 332
what details do you have already - e.g. certs, census returns, parish records etc .. and what are you searching for ?

Well I have found a birth record on rootsireland.ie for a, Mary Gielty, no birth year is given, address ; slievemore. Father; Anthony Gielty and Mother; Anne Burke.
I have two Anthony Gielty's in my tree and I am unsure who's child it is. Anthony Gielty b.1861 married Mary O'Malley and they had a child called mary (plus 8 other children) but I just thought her parents would be the same as the others.
Is it possible this record I found means she is illigitimate?

I'm not clear on the links you have ... based on the Civil BMD Index there looks to be more than one Gielty family in the area, so you would need to verify the family links to work out the details.
It's better to verify each step with documentation as you work back in time starting from recent details, or you can easily end up tracing the wrong family lines.

One point to watch about Achill RC parish records is that they only go back to 1868.. so that 1861 baptism you mentioned must be from a different parish.

There are some names and information here - do you have this?

Hello again,
You have obviously done quite a bit of research so presumably have looked at censuses.
I am just wondering about the John you have mentioned born '1893?'.
1911 has John 7 yrs (abt 1904) with parents Anthony and Mary
1901 has John 9 yrs (abt 1892) with parents James and Bridget
Family Search also has some Gielty information.
1911 census looks to have these families:
John Gielty and Mary Malley Keel West
Anthony and Mary Gielty Slievemore
1901 has these and James as the principle families. You have such a specific name and area.
There is also a 'Gulty' family in 1901 and a 'Geilty' family in 1911- worth checking too.
Ellis Island site also has some Gieltys emigrating to USA.
1911 has no Gielty (or variations) in the Dookinelly townlands but there are Toolis families.
Marriage and birth certificates would be the ideal way to find the correct families.

So I went back to the begin and started from scratch, seem's I have managed to completely mess up on this along the line!!
Anthony Gielty is not the family I should of been searching for it is, John and Mary (Malley) Gielty. (Keel)
It just goes to show how easy it is and why it is important to make sure every detail is correct other wise you end up like me like a dog chasing it's own tail!!
On the familysearch.org website I found records for John Gielty born 1875 and died 1956. I pieced this up as I remembered that John Junior's father was alive when he got married. so this ruled out finding a death record after 1960. I knew he was around on the 1911 census and also had his youngest child in 1927. so I looked between 1927 and 1960 for a death record and came up with this one.
I have sent off for his death record and should be receiving it soon to gain confirmation.
I can only assume at the moment that another John Gielty I found is John Seniors father born, 1844, died, 1924.
I came across this website on the Mayo links topic;
http://interment.net/data/ireland/mayo/sleivemore/sleivemore.htm
I was wondering if this would be the graveyard they would be buried in if they lived in Keel and if so, on this record It lists a few "Cielty"s but I wonder if its a mistake and someone has read the surname wrong and if so, is this my John Gielty I am looking for?
Cielty, John, d. 2 Mar 1924, age: 78yr, Husband of Mary
Cielty (O'Malley), Mary, d. 26 May 1911, age: 61yr, Husband of John
This would of made him born 1846 though. Only two years out...

Hello again,
they are Gielty on the cemetery site I gave you earlier - that one has her has O'Malley and also has the sons names - did you look at that one?
I can't quite follow your family here - are you saying that John Gielty and Mary O'Malley are the grandparents of your John?
Are you still saying that your John was born c 1893? If so, then do you have him in censuses or birth registers?
regards
