Hello everybody!
I'm new to the forum but certainly not to genealogy - been researching my family history for the past six years or so, alone and with my mum. I'd be really interested to hear from anyone with the Gulwells in their tree.
My great grandmother was Rowena Elizabeth DAVIS (nee GULWELL), whose parents were Jane (nee Sutton, b. Pembrokeshire) and Oliver GULWELL. Oliver died in Gloucester County Lunatic Asylum in March 1916 and Jane died in Badminton that December.
Their son (my great great uncle) William also died in July 1916 fighting in the Somme during WWI. In his death entry on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website, it says "Husband of Gwladys PURCELL (formerly GULWELL)", which I've checked and also looked to see if they had any children. They had a daughter, Joan R GULWELL born in 1916. Unfortunately my family obviously lost touch with them for one reason or another after William died, certainly after Gwladys remarried in 1918, so this is as far as I've been able to go with it.
I would love to hear from anyone who might be related via this branch of my family, as there were lots of Gulwells! Off the top of my head, Oliver and Jane's children were; Sarah Jane , Frank (moved north and spawned family that we're still in touch with), Rowena (although her birth is listed as "Reverne" and her tombstone says "Reverna"!), William, Ernest, Emily, Ella, and Harry, although there may have been others which I will check when I get home from Epsom.
I know that Ernest moved to Hampshire, married Elizabeth (b. Chelsea), opened a boarding house - which Elizabeth ran while Ernest was a groom - and had a son Henry Sidney Gulwell.
I also know that Sarah Jane moved to Middlesex and married a George Johnstone (b. Scotland), who seemed to be quite well off as they were living in quite a large house in 1911. They had children but I can't remember names off the top of my head.
As I said, I can't stress enough how much I would love to hear from people with this lot in their family tree - get in touch! :D

I've only just spotted your post. Your William Gulwell married Gwladys Rees in Sep 1915 in Chipping Sodbury. They had no children (Joan R was the daughter of another William Gulwell) but Gwladys' second marriage was to George Purcell, by whom she had 2 sons and a daughter (who is still alive). The eldest son Ivor died in 2006 but his widow is also still alive and their younger daughter Jane is my sister-in-law! If you want any further information feel free to email me on: *
