Are you specifically looking for a James Gillgrass, or Gillgrass's in general. There are quite a lot with this surname living in Wokingham.
regards.

I can only see the one family, in Rose Street Wokingham, and the John Isobelruss mentions, in the workhouse. Interestingly, James's family have a John aged 75 with them. I wonder if it's the same person recorded twice?
I can see James in Islington in 1851, he's down as born Oakingham, which is an old name for Wokingham.

i am looking for any gillgrass berkshire 1841 or name spelt any way thanks haydon

I've searched for G*lg*s which should pick up most spellings I think. There are only these:
Rose Street Wokingham
John Gilgrass 35 ag lab
Lucy 30
James 11
John 9
Lucy 7
Elizabeth 4
Hannah 16 months
John 75 Ind
All shown as born in county.
Wokingham Union workhouse Wargrave
John Gilgrass 70 pauper born in county
There are a couple in Surrey, all the others are Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire. I only got 80 results altogether, a lovely rare name!
I can see that when he got to Wales James' place of birth is a bit scrambled, both in the recording and the transcription.

Hello Haydon,
Who are you specifically looking for in the 1841 ? perhaps I can help ? .. Hello everyone who has posted, I too am a direct descendent of the Gil(l) grass's and have been in touch with Haydon previously (through email).
The family do all live in Rose Street, Wokingham (as you have kindly found) in 1841
John snr died 23 March 1847, he is the JG recorded living with his son John & wife Lucy and family in 1841
Children for John Gillgrass (snr) and Elizabeth Long -
Elizabeth Gillgrass (1802) m. Edward Boyd.
John Smithers Gillgrass (1805) m. Lucy White
James Smithers Gillgrass (1807 - 1808)
William Long Gillgrass (1808 - 1808 - an infant)
Thomas Gillgrass (1810)
William Long Gillgrass (1816)
John (snr) was an only child his father died shortly after his birth in 1770, so there are not going to be any sibling families to find.
Hope Gilgrass my gg. grandmother was the last child to John Gilgrass and Lucy (born 1846) the James (aged 11) that you found Haydon is Hope's elder brother, son of Lucy and John.
