I have a database of ALL known British soldiers that died during the Boer War, over 24,000 names, of which 140 died in the UK after being invalided home. Apart from "UK" they have no known grave. Any suggestions would be welcome please.

Hi Kati, yes I have and all of the others on the WWW but my database is far more detailed, containing much more information including a memorial location on about 90%. I am now down to the nitty gritty which makes it very difficult to find them.

Is it possible to attach a list of the names you are searching for.A lot of areas have local history websites with military graves as a subsection.
It may come to comparing names on your list to surviving service records on Find My Past...However a lot of the Volunteers that served in SA may not have those records.
National Burial Index may help ?
Good luck in your quest Ive done a fair bit of WW1 grave locating If you have any Yorkshire War Grave queries may be able to help

Tks Ady however the list with all its references is quite large and anyway I have no idea where they died except UK somewhere. If you can help by me giving you a list perhaps you could make contact via email at * Uncommon names might help but most are common consequently there are a ot to choose from, from a lot of areas.

You have a large database of UK soldiers' names from the Boer War? I am looking for a great-uncle who was in the Boer War...would you happen to have a Stanley John Wright on your list? Any information on him would be most helpful.
Thanks!
Wendy...

Hello Wendy, sorry but 99.9% of the names on my database are for those who died during the Boer War. Your uncle is not there so it must be assumed that he survived and your only options are to contact the National Archives at Kew London or the regiment if you know which one he belonged to.
Sorry I cannot be of further help

Hi Brian, that's too bad...oh well, I had to give it a shot. All that I know of him is that he was in the Boer War...no regiment....nothing... Thanks anyway!

Hi Brian
I see that his older topic has been resurrected.
Do you still need help with locating the graves etc?

Hi brian, are we talking about the first or the second boer war or both?? What are you going to do with this database?
I'm sure there are many of us that had relatives in the boer wars. Rather like the last poster i had a private 5237 alfred jacob perry (aged abt 20) who died from fever/disease at Burghersdorp 27 april 1901 in the 17th Lancers. I've looked through the online cemeteries, tried his hometown cemeteries and now the nearest thing i have to a memorial says that the 17th Lancers have theirs at the Aldershot all saints church. I haven't been able to get a reply out of them about whether they do have the memorial or not let alone who's on it.
Have you got anything you can add to that?
thanks neil

Hi Brian,
I notice that you have an extensive database for the Boer War and was wondering if you have anything on my mothers half uncle who died in the boer war. The info I have found so far about him are as follows:
John George Kitching - Private 5251, Unit: 7th (Queen's Own) Hussars. There is a memorial to him on his mother and sister's headstone which says that he died 29 June 1902.
On the Roll of honour website the following is stated: Private, 7th Hussars. Resident Ipswich. Probably died at Wynberg. Buried in the Methodist Cemetery, Wynberg, Capetown. No real information in any of the usual sources exists for this man except for a notation of where he is buried.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Michelle
