Hi I found husbands gt grandparents living at Qusquo cottages near Snaith and Carlton [Selby] in 1881.I can't find out any thing about this unusual name. Any ideas?

Google books...
Qusquo Hall and 2 other farms form the hamlet of Qusquo about 2 miles NW from Carlton.
That's all I could find I'm afraid

If you go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html and put the coordinates 462500, 4269000 in to search it will centre the map on Qusquo Cottages, Hall and House. On the right hand side you will see a list of maps of various dates, select the 1971 Post WWII, Yorkshire 1: 2,500 and click on "Enlarge Map", you can then zoom in to see the map in greater detail.
You can see the cottages and hall as they are today on Google Streetview at http://www.rootschat.com/links/0elz/

That last link throws up a modernish semi-detached house on Jowland Winn Lane whilst the other map shows the property on Chester Wood Road. When I use street view down Chester Wood Road can find what looks like the old cottage.....

I can't see a Chester Wood Road on the map. The Google Streetview shows the hall as it is now, and the modern houses are called Qusquo Cottages on the modern map. There do not appear to be any Qusquo cottages marked on the historic maps, but I assume they would be in the proximity of Qusquo Hall or Qusquo House.

Sorry, it should have read Chester Court Road and not Chester Wood Road.
Chester Court Road is a turn off just past the pub on the left side on heading north on the A19 at Camblesforth.......it then goes for 1/2 mile or so then meets Jowland Winn Lane which turns off to the left. Chester Court Road carries on for another mile or so and then rejoins the A19 further north. It passes keepers ciottages etc and it is near herfe where the Oldmaps co-ordinates comes oot.
The Google street view shows a property down Jowland Winn Lane.......
So I am getting a bit more confused now ! ??? ???

Thank you to every one who has taken the time to look up information on Qusquo cottages. Other people on ancestry.com informed me qusquo is Latin for Alpha and that there is a qusquo bistro in LA USA[Might I get to visit that some day?]
