Title: Dead End
Post by: William Stuart on Thursday 11 August 11 19:40 BST (UK)
Hi,got a real problem now,Have been searching for the birth record for my Great grandfather James Jones according to the 1891,1901,and 1911 census he was born in 1860/61 in Holywell North Wales,His Father is recorded as Joseph Jones and still living on his marriage certificate in 1883 which took place in manchester, the problem I've got is there is no record of him born in Holywell in 1859-61 and I,m not sure if there's any more I could do to pursue him,William

Hi,

Jones is often a very difficult name to research -especially form Walea -there are so many!

First of all could you post more information -then we will see what we can find

Who did james Jones marry?
Where did they live after marriage?
On marriage cert what is Joseph's occupation?
Who are the witnesses? They may be related to James???

Could you find him in the census perhaps? With his father?

I have actually put this down as the only possibility to the problem, but just cannot understand why there is no birth record to confirm or deny this in holywell, thank you for your efforts william

Hi,

I found 14 possible births all James Jones born Holywell, North Wales between 1858-1861.  Are you unable to find these entries or do you mean you have checked all possibilities out?

Hi

Just in case the information is new, http://www.northwalesbmd.org.uk/ has births listed by sub-registration district. Sometimes that is helpful.

Do you think the baptism (IGI extracted) at Cilcain in Dec 1859 is too far away from Holywell itself? The father is down as Jope. Cilcain is in the Holywell district (Mold 4 subdistrict according to Genuki).

There is also the possibility that the birth wasn't registered.
Youmay be looking for a baptism record only

I had been sending for every entry individually, but I was told on roots chat that I could just ask for those with a father named Joseph and they sent my money back saying no record existed 1859/60, I had already done 1861,William

Have seen that record but can't understand why I can't find a confirmation on any census, nothing shows up on Ancestry william

Is he down as a bricksetter in 1901 census?

I wonder if this is him in 1881?

Toxteth Park, Lancs
James Jones lodger 21 born Buckley Wales, labourer
Head of household is James Bostock 38 born Buckley, Flint, brick maker

The birth places of the Bostock family are all down as Buckley but James Bostock is elsewhere as born Hawarden so Buckley may be used as the handiest place.

Could be,he is down as a bricksetter in 1901, but just can't be sure, still don't understand why he doesn't show up in 1871 with his father Joseph, william
