Title: Jseph Green
Post by: eileenbrookes on Thursday 11 August 11 15:37 BST (UK)
Is there a chance that someone has the names of the parents of Joseph Green born Loughborough in 1771?He married a girl by the name of Sarah. I have no nee name for her. They were wed in 1794, and in 1841, they were in Mill street workhouse.
My tree can go no further back without parents names.
Many thanks for reading this.

and in 1841, they were in Mill street workhouse.

The 1841 does have a Joseph Green b 1771 living in Mill St but he is not in the WH and there is no Sarah with him

HO107 Piece 595/6  Folio 47 Page 22

The 1841 does not show precise birthplaces so although he is shown as b Leics and was living in Loughborough - he may not necessarily have been born actually in Loughborough - just somewhere within Leics

Also - ages were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs so he could have been between 70-74yrs old

Hi, thanks for your reply. It would be nice to know that he wasn't in the workhouse. I got that info from one of the family sites, but can't remember which one. I'll have to have another scan.

This is an extract from  http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Loughborough/

Loughborough Union workhouse was built in 1838 at the south side of Derby Road.

Joseph appears to be one of 4 residents of that particular house in Mill Lane - no number shown

Thomas Adkin 45
Hannah Adkin  50
William Clements 50 not b Leics
Joseph Green 70 agric labourer

where were they married? where did you get the date from? - there is a submitted record on family search - treat dates with caution - not from original records.

Hello Diddy, how kind of you to do that, but please don't put yourself out for me.
I really can't remember where I got the info from as I've been doing all of our trees for a number of years now. This is what I have on Joseph.
Joseph Green born Loughborough 1771. He wed Sarah b. 1767 @ loughborough in 1794.
They had a son William b. 16. 10 .1795. He married twice. once to Sarah Mobbs and then to an Ann?
One of these was in London, posssibly Sarah, he had son in London by the name of George. He wed Sarah Ann Simons in Leicestershire in 1840, but in 1861 they lived in Brearley Street Birmingham, where my Grandfather, Frederick was born. He wed in Birmingham and later, they moved back to Leicester.
They seem to be all over the place, and the woman my Grandad wed. Prudence Davis. originated in Birmingham from more Greens. Not sure if they are related or not.
No wonder it is taking me so long to sort them all out. lol

ok. no marriage listed at all 1790 -1800.

so had a look for children in the baps indexes.

William Green   9/12/1795  s/o Joseph Green, Boatman & Sarah
                    d.19/9/1796

William Green   16/10/1797 s/o JG, boatman & Sarah

Sarah Ibbotson 23/2/1802   d/o JG, boatman & Sarah
Sarah ibbotson 9/6/1802       "          "              "  this must be the same one - possibly baptised at birth if thought unlikely to live and then again when survived. possibility of ibbotson being mothers maiden name!

Joseph Green    13/2/1805   s/o JG,boatman & Sarah

Elizabeth Green  26/9/1808 d/o JG,boatman & Sarah
                     d. 29/7/1809

fly in ointment:
James Green   22/7/1810  s/o Jos Green, Potter & Sarah
                  d. 6/11/1812

If joseph Green, boatman is the right one that might be why no marriage in Loughborough. Grand Union canal & River Soar all the way through Loughborough to Leicester - could be in any of the villages - not indexed like L'boro.

also looked for baps of Joseph & Sarah (Ibbotson) 1749 - 1791 indexes but couldn't find - again probably village.

Thanks for all the info. It was very kind of you to do this for me. Will have to study it properly. Have printed it off so that I can follow it all up.
We have such a complicated family, it's a surprise to know where I come from myaself at times. lol
