Thanks Morgan and Carol for taking the time to look and reply to me. It is William the Maltster I am interested in but want to go further back. I have found a marriage of William Golby to Rachael Cook in 1765 St. Giles and think he cld be grandfather of William the Maltster but want to find the children of William and Rachel.

Thank you, I must have missed that - busy deciphring will, William Golby d 1809 lived in Calverton End, names daughters, Mary, wife of James Popay a Surgeon, daughter Elizabeth (I have info on this one) wife of John Aplin (Banbury links) and daughter Ann wife of Thomas Gunn. He leaves his pasture in Calverton to daughter Mary together with his property The Crown in Stony Stratford, premises in the Market Place, SS he leaves to daughter Elizabeth together with sums of money £800 and £600 each and to daughter Ann he leaves £1000 as long as her and her husband relinquish all rights to the property in Calverton !! Son William named as Executor and also a James Wake Golby (Banbury ties again). Leaves all daughters shares in the Grand Junction Canal.

Hi there! By his wife Rachel COOK, William GOLBY had just one daughter Ann who married 1796 at Stony Stratford, to Thomas GREEN. In 1773 at Wolverton, WG married his second wife Sarah GLEED, and they had Mary 1774, William 1775, James 1777, Elizabeth 1780 and Sarah 1782, all baptised at Stony Stratford. Mary, my husband's direct ancestor married 1795 James POPAY, a surgeon, and died at Calverton, Bucks, in 1848. Their children were Mary Gleed POPAY, Sarah Elizabeth POPAY (married Abraham BARRATT), and Lavinia POPAY.
I am thinking you must descend from Mary's brother William GOLBY who was a maltster of Stony Stratford? His will was proved 1841, and he names his wife Mary, son William, and daughters Sarah, Harriet and Ann.
William was a cousin of James Wake GOLBY who died 1842, and JWB was a son of a James GOLBY who died 1818, this James was therefore a brother of "our" William who married Rachel COOK and Sarah GLEED.......are you still with me?......SO, there were these brothers William GOLBY and James GOLBY, - James definitely of Banbury, Oxfordshire, and William certainly with links there (mentioned in Grafton Estate docs), and I think they had a sister Elizabeth who married a William LOVELL - but - who the parents of these were, I do not yet know!!
Will be most interested to hear if any of this is new to you, and if you might know anything further back.

LOL.......And?...pls tell me about your line!.......does what I wrote make sense to you?
-
I need a month to sort it - haha leave it with me for a bit whilst I go through it. It all makes sense James Wake Golby was a Solicitor in Banbury, I've got him, will unravel - do you want an invite to it all on Ancestry tree, that would be a good idea, then you can see where I am with it all - I will need your email address - it is so kind of you, what fun !! x
-
Have sent you a private message.
-
Well, I have had a most interesting time with your Tree!.....Have been wondering if you have the will for William GOLBY who died 1809.....could email it if you would send me your address. I also have a Will transcript for his daughter Mary POPAY, 1848. I also notice you have a Mary A LINNELL.......well I have a heap of LINNELLs....they were intermarried more than once with our BARRATT family (Sarah Elizabeth POPAY having married Abraham BARRATT of Wicken, Northants, and whose mother was a Mary LINNELL).
Back to GOLBYs....there is a reference in "The Local Historian" to a painting of St Mary's Church in Banbury - I found it on Google Books, but it is only a "snippet". States "The table tomb in the foreground is that of William Golby, who was buried in January 1784".
Now that sounds interesting. I've tried online Archive sites for Oxfordshire, but can't seem to latch on to anything of any use.

Hello,
I am also seeking information on the Golby line. Harriet Golby, b. 1823, d. 1860 of Stony Stratford was my GGG Grandmother. I have a copy of her marriage to Rosamond Clarke, but am looking for additional informaton on her parents William and Mary, as well as her grandfather William Golby
who died in 1809. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
-
hi,
I picked up the children of your William & Mary in Stony Stratford on the 1841 Census - I believe they were Sarah, William, Harriet and Ann. But I have Harriet with a birthyear of 1816. .....So, have I got the right family? I believe the father, William, died in 1841. Don't know his wife's full name, just "Mary".

I'm back again!
It seems that the wife of William GOLBY was Mary CUMBERLAND - info from the Family Tree of howesd (above) whose records seem spot-on! You may like to contact her.
