Are other members finding the site is running slowly today? It is taking me up to 20seconds to load a page.
-
fine so far .... mind you I switched off the display of avatars some time back.
-
Mine is abnormally slow. I updated AVG last night and installed the upgrade today. I wondered if that might be the cause, but other sites seem OK. Is it just your avatar or all of them you turned off?
-
plural - all of 'em; especially the animated ones which I find distracting :P
I guess it also depends on your ISP, his equipment and anything else in the route misbehaving ...
-
Not just RootsChat.
In the light of the news from Britain and from the plumetting stock exchanges it's possible that more people than usual are staying glued to the news channels.

Makes sense Bob, thanks for that! I'll make some space on Rootschat, and watch the news instead!
-
Only 20 secs to load a page ?? You're lucky ... you want to try my slow-band !!
-
Strange, I was just thinking it was going quicker than usual :P
-
I'm finding that surfing is very slow and also our local newspaper website crashed this afternoon.
-
Mine's fine! ;D
-
OK here.
-
Seems better today; I wonder if it was my new updated AVG "bedding in" that caused the problem. Remember we now have update Tuesday to look forward to.
-
I switched off the display of avatars some time back.
??? ??? ??? How do you do that Mort?

Hi
Avatars OFF?
Select PROFILE from Rootschat (top) Menu
Select Look & Layout Preferences from the Modify Profile box on the left.
Select "Don't show other users' avatars." (3rd tick box down)
Select Change Profile (bottom right)
Avatars OFF!
Enjoy

Thanks Ray
Must try that. Some of them are OK, but I agree some of the moving ones are distracting

The library computer system is quite slow.
Per the librarian computer access has been slow or even slower all week. She said it was due to the large number of people on the web attempting to keep up with the downward spiral of the world economy, and the news from Britain and various other European countires.
She also mentioned summer vacation will soon end here for kids and the fact that it has been mighty hot and humid throughout the majority of the United States leading to increased electrical usage and rolling brownouts.

Could be yn9man, but so far today it all seems normal and OK. Maybe it's because the rain here has dampened the riots for the time being.
-
And now it's slowed down again, everyone trying to sign a petition perhaps?
-
doubt it, the sites been down all day ....
-
Sometimes its fast, sometimes its slow.
Sometimes its fast for some people and slow for others at the same time.
Does it really matter that much?
This thread could go on for ever.

Which is roughly what I said in reply #4 :)
The internet has fast days and slow days - we simply have to expect this.
As we are now going round in circles, I'll lock this thread (and reduce the load on the internet ;D )
