Am looking for information on Edward Rowell who married Hannah Armstrong on 4th May 1729. The family were from the Allendale area and I have most of the information on their children but none on their prdeccessors.
Any help would be most welcome.. Ron H.

There Rowells lived at The Woodhead, Allendale. They were Quakers in the seventeenth century. One of my seventeenth century ancestors, Joseph Vipond of Alston Moor married Sarah Wallas of Allendale at The Woodhead, Allendale. I have a copy of the marriage 'certificate' which gives the names of all attendees, most of whom are from Allendale (often spelt Allendaile at the time). Quakers had been persecuted up to 1689 and Joseph Vipond and Sarah Wallas married at the time of the Toleration Act (1689). Allendale inhabitants first became Quaker in around 1653 following the preaching of travelling Quakers in the area (who also called themselves 'The first publishers of Truth'). I believe that it is extremely likely that this is the same Rowell family you are studying. To find your earlier family history it is important to concentrate on Quaker Records (Family search - Mormon Website is free), whilst Ancestry has lots of Quaker records. You would need to search circa 78 yrs from around 1653 to 1729. I am doing a PhD in this, my own family history.
