Hi folks, I can assist with lookups on South Australian Births 1842 - 1906 and Deaths 1842 - 1915. I have the cds at home and can give a fast response. I can also provide some great website addresses that have helped me with my own research.
Once a week I volunteer at a local library as a Genealogy assistant and can help with births 1906 - 1928 and marriages from 1842 - 1937. Unfortunately those requests will take longer!

Hi Kylee
I don't know if you would be able to help me at all, it's a bit of a 'shot in the dark'. I am trying to trace descendants of my fathers uncle who emigrated to Australia when young after 'getting a young girl into trouble'. I know that he married in Australia about 1930, but have no idea where.
His name was Clifford Henry Jones - born 10 Mar 1904, Llangollen, Wales. He married Florence Vera <surname unknown> - born 7 July 1912. And ...er.. that's all I know :-
I do know they had a number of children, called Betty (b: 3 Dec 1933), Clifford, Dorothy May, Bryan, Florence Margaret, William Sealy, Kathleen, Desmond, Gail, Gay and Dennis.
Unfortunately I don't even know WHERE in Australia they went to - like a say, a needle in a haystack! But if you can provide me with anything, even useful Australian family tree links that may be of use, then I would be very grateful indeed.
Craig :)

Hi Craig, Unfortunately I cant help from home, my cds are too early. You missed my once a week library visit by one day! (Id been all day yesterday!)
I will try to get there next week sometime and I shall have a look for you. Unless someone else on this board has access to the cds from home and can help out?
Im sure something will turn up on them, although their children were born too late - think the cds only go up to 1928.
Keep ya fingers crossed

Kylee, how nice of you.
I have missing Bells in Australia, they emigrated from Surrey/London in the late 1870's have found some fo them but I am still missing Caroline Bell born 1846 Arthur Henry born 1844, Clarissa born 1855 Zante Claude born 1861, and Stanley Lawrence born 1863.
Any information about what happened to them would be great!
-
Hi Melaniejoy,
I had a look for you on my cds and none of them are on either births or deaths. Ive not found any deaths up to 1915, so when I get a chance at the local library next week Ill have a look at the deaths to 1928.
Sorry at this stage I am unable to help you.

Hi everyone, I am leaving for a weeks holiday as of this afternoon June 6th so I wont be able to access the internet to reply to any lookup requests! I shall be back after June 12th - sometime after that I will be able to help again.
To both requests from Laverdiere and Tidgie, I had a look but was not successful in finding anything. Possibly you are looking at the wrong state in Australia? Sorry I couldnt be of any help to you both.

Hi.
I was wondering what the procedure is for before 1839. :)
I have George Henry Bras(s)ington Married to Susan(nah) Davi(e)S 13 Nov 1837. I have their first child listed as Phoebe BRAS(S)INGTON 24 Feb 1838. which means, either mother was pregnant before wedding, or child was 6 months premiture.. Either way the child died one day later. I can't say the whole Phoebe thing is true and correct as I got it from LDS, along with alot of other BRAS(S)ington info. But is there some way I/you/someone can search this info? Like Phoebe's Birth and Death Certificate. Is there some way to find where the child is buried? They also had one other child while in SA, Caroline Esther, I don't have her certificate, but I believe she was born 8 April 1839.
I also have no idea how they came to be in SA, both came in via NSW as convicts, him in 1832 and her in 1828.
Thanks for your help,
Liz
-
Hi Liz,
Unfortunately I wasnt able to find the births on cd as theyre too early (1842 - 1906) but did find the parents marriage which verified your dates. There were other Brassington births and deaths but not to the parents you mentioned and much later on. Did your Brassingtons stay in SA?
http://www.hotkey.net.au/~jwilliams4/sa2.htm
I am still looking for you dont give up hope just yet :)

-
Hi,
Wow :O :) That was quick thank you for searching and continuing to look. I am sorry I should have mentioned (i was a wee bit tired as I had discoved this site, and didn't wanna go to bed ;) ) that they( Or maybe just her) left SA before APR 1841 as she had a child in NSW, (and continued having them ever two years in NSW :O ) He could possibly been involved with ships/shipping.. I don't have the book but the Bega genealogy book, says that he got shipwrecked somewhere near Pambula Nsw.
Ok, I have probably babbled enough.
Thanks again for your help.
Liz

Hi Liz, try this site - noticed it has NSW and shipping information on it. If you click on BDMs it will take you to another page with the state you want to search. Good luck with it and I will still keep looking for you!

hello Kylie,
Thanks so much, that is what I wanted. Do you have access to emigration records for SA? I would love to know when Carl Oswald arrived in Australia and also his wife.
Thanks again, i appreciate you taking the time to help me.
Leigh P
-
Hi Leigh,
Glad to be of assistance. I am unsure if you have already found this digital information at this National Archives:
www.naa.gov.au
Click on record search - then click on search now as a guest unless you already have a user name etc. Then enter Finkelde as a search. You will find an already opened file containing Carl Oswalds naturalisation paperwork for digital review which you can download for free and print. There are also a few others there that I think are related to your line.
If you have any information on Carls arrival, such as where departed, where arrived, approx year and a ship name we can hunt him down im sure! According to his naturalisation paperwork he is from Germany so that might be a lead to work with!
You might like to try this website:

Hi
I dont suppose you can help me, but here goes ... My grandad brother went to Brisbane in the 1920'30's not sure when, we think he may have had connections with the Salvation Army maybe being sponsored by them his name was George Cox and he came from Leytonstone in East London. My mum had contact with the family until the 19780's but when she died I lost touch. I would very much like to get in touch again. I know it is a long short but I am trying to at least trace what boat they/he went on. Could you let me know how practical this is, thanks
Christine
-
Hi Christine,
I'm also researching some Cox families, and I'm now in contact with Australia!
Please reply here or send me a personal msg.
Hopefully I can then get you in contact with a descendant of George's brother, William.
Charlotte
-
Hi
Are you looking up Cox family as you are part of that family? My grandfather was the brother of George Cox and we were close to the family while I was growing up and would love to be in touch with them again, Do you know anything about them and where are you based in Uk or Aus.
quite a few question! you, I did not understand the person msg could you tell me what that is?
Thanks looking forward to hearing from you
Christine
-
Hi Christine,
We did a few messages back and forth, a while ago.
Your grandfather's dad, William Cox -- his sister, Amelia (b. 1852) is our connection to the family.
We're in Canada, and just recently we got in touch with Australia.
Apparently there are a lot of descendants out there, and they even get together each year!
The person we're in touch with has even mentioned George - "one of the nicest men you could meet, his family were and are the same"
I will send you a personal message with my email address. (at the top right-hand corner of your screen, click messages to read it)
Charlotte
-
Hi Charlotte
I am not great with computers so not sure I will know how to access your email.
I am so pleased to have contact with you. How did you find the people in Australia? My uncle is still alive and he remembers the Salvation Army band going to there house and seeing them off... I wonder if any of them remember him talking about my Mother ?...
I am very interested to hear about your part of the family and I dont know how much you know about other Cox's, there are quite a few in South Africa and I have been in touch with them
I hope to be in contact with you soon,
Thanks Christine
-
Hi Christine,
That's interesting to hear there are people in South Africa as well - look forward to hearing more about them!
We asked for a lookup for Robert's birth in Stowupland, and someone in Australia had a similar request. The man looking them up remembered, and connected us!
Email addresses can't be posted on these boards, so to get into the personal messages,
- go to the top of the page, it should say
Welcome back, cjamesuk, you have ? messages.
Click the word messages and it should come up okay. Leave a message on here again if it doesn't work!

Hi Twinkleberry,
Thank you for that information which has given me a couple of names and dates I didn't know before. I had found the entries in The Australian Dictionary of Biography concerning Lewis Wibmer Jeffries and his brother Sir Shirley Williams Jeffries who were cousins of my husband's grandfather. A fellow researcher is trying to find out what happened to their older half-brother, William Albert Yates Jeffries, who was born in Mold, Wales, in 1874, and presumably went to Australia with his father and stepmother in the 1880s. He is named in a relative's will in 1927 but we have found no other record of him.
Many thanks,
Kath
