hi
i need info on a thomas garland...i now know that he was born 1863 lancaster and he married mary...i need his parents names and he also travelled to usa(why i dont know)...so any info would be great...i have posted about his saughter before(annie vera garland)but its him i need info on now
please help if u can

When/where did he marry Mary?
A marriage cert would give you his fathers name
A birth cert of one of their children would give you Mary's maiden name.
Have you searched free BMD for his birth? Or censuses for him with his parents before his marriage (was he married by 1881, as that census is free to search)

i see from your other post regarding his daughter that he was born in 1863 in st.helens,lancs

the reg dist for st.helens is prescot
there is this birth index
name; thomas garland

this is the only birth anywhere within the timeframe and in the right area that i can see
this if it is him would give you the parents names

although the 1901 census gives the birthplace of their eldest daughter florence aged 13 as st helens
i can find no birth reg in this area for her
in 1901 they are living in sculcoates reg dist
there is a birth in 1887 in that area of a florence garland
there is also a marriage in 1886 in that dist of a thomas garland
on the same page is a mary ann johnson
i think there is a very good chance this is your thomas

hi
i have no marriage dates at all and thank you that one does look like the thomas im after....i cant get onto ancestry(due to money probs)so cant access the census.....i had a feeling that florence`s birth place was wrong but im not sure why so it could be her in sculcoates.......thanks so much for ur help and any more would be appreciated x

You don't need a sub to search freebmd for marriages etc.  The coverage nowadays is pretty good so do try there first.   FreeCen might be useful too.
