Title: POCOCK - Missionaries
Post by: Leeeeeese on Saturday 06 August 11 20:41 BST (UK)
Hello Everybody,

I am trying to help a friend with their family research.

The Pocock Brothers went to Africa with Morton Stanley ... Does anyone have any information that would shed light on these brother both before they travelled or during their stay?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa

What kind of information are you after?  There are quite a few refs. to them on the web ie. http://www.frindsburyextra-pc.gov.uk/twoupnorbrothers.htm

They were born in Frindsbury according to the census so if they were C of E you may be able to find their baptisms in the online parish registers http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/

Do you have census details or would you like them?

Casalguidi :)

Hi Lisa

The 2 brothers are my 1st Cousins 5 x removed and below is some of the information I have got for them

Francis John POCOCK was Baptised on the 5th May 1850 & Died on 3rd June 1877 at Zinga Falls, Africa

Edward POCOCK was Baptised on the 7th March 1852 & Died on 17th of January 1875 in Africa

They were both Baptised in All Saint's Church, Frindsbury, Kent

There is a plaque dedicated to them at St Phillip & St James Church, Upnor, Kent

Hope this helps
