Title: Griffin Kilmaley Clare
Post by: Erincyprus on Friday 05 August 11 00:41 BST (UK)
John Griffin Married Anne King in Kilmaley Parish Clare 24th June 1840.

Help to find any Children of this Marriage and the name of the Chapel would be appreciated.

The Roman Catholic Chapel in Kilamley is St. John's.  However the parish has three chapels.  One in Kilmaley, one in Connolly and one in Inch.

Do you have any additional information as there were a number of Griffin/Griffey families in the parish.

baptisms
http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/clare/churches/kilmaley-bap.txt
the lady who did list also did list for marriages which used to be online but disapeared 2 or 3 years ago ive tried to contact her with no success .
i had quick look at baptism list no luck for you i dont think .
it was the practice back then for the husband to marry in the wifes parish and move back to live in the husbands , onless he wed and got the family farm .

clare co library have a great genealogy link
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm
kilmaley graveyard inscriptions
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/graves/kilmaley_graveyard.htm
john mayer donated the material to site
hes abook out on the parish http://www.lulu.com/ search kilmaley
i contacted him by email he was able to send me two pages of material for my wifes family inc graves for free he also said hed meet up with me and show me where the graves were .

kilmaley publishes magazine (google) comes out i think every year they list some births deaths marriages i used to have one from several years ago which listed a lot i cant at mo find it .

make sure you search for husband and brides surnames on
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/census_search_forms/index.htm
its the search forms for 1841 1851 census when people wanted to claim old age pensions 1900s you may find siblings from there home parish who will list there parents and siblings
search by applicants name and applicants mothers maiden name (surnames)

good luck in your research

Thank you so much for the information.  I will check it out Clare records are difficult.

I have had some info from John and the Parish Priest at Kilmaley all of which I appreciate greatly.

Any of your links to the King Family?

Erin x

i have not yet came across the surname in my research
but the family is very confusing to follow as they kept changing the spelling of there surname
ive been able to follow the line because the land is still in the family
if it hadnt been id be long lost
i wish you good luck in your research and will watch out for the king surname

Hi again obbie,

I also wish you the very best of luck in your research.  My Griffin line I know had a link also to Bandon in Cork and one was a Deep Sea Diver albeit it seems from a Farming Family in Kilmaley in Clare.

Too many Griffins/Griffen's/Griffey's/Griffith's and loads with the Christian Name of John so gotta keep plugging away...
