Is anyone visiting the Mitchell Library in the near future and able to do a look up for me ?
I’ve just found the 1889 Death Certificate for my ancestor Agnes Hamilton Nee. Muir C1816 who died in the City Poorhouse, Glasgow (District of Saint Rollox ). Her parents were James Muir & Janet Smellie/ Smelie. She is listed as a widow of William Hamilton also my ancestor.
Her husband was William Hamilton C1814 and I haven’t managed to find his Death Certificate yet. I have him listed with Agnes and children on the 1861 Census in Govan, Glasgow.
I have now found William Hamilton's Death Certificate of 1869 in Port Glasgow, Renfrew. However it is a bit of a dead end as it doesn't provide his parents names and this column is blank.
Agnes & William M1837 had Seven children by 1855, 5 Boys & Two Girls, one deceased. I have only discovered Five of the childrens names so far.
James C1839 My ancestor
Janet C1845
Walter C1850
Agnes C1854
William B1855 Eastwood, Renfrewshire
I am therefore hoping that the Mitchell Library record can provide me with some additional information.

Ron

Yes, the Staff at Mitchell are very , very helpful.
However it should be made clear that to get a look up you need ££`s and more money to get poorhouse records photocopied.

Many thanks Ogleway,
I'll get right on to the Cumbernauld archives on my return from sunny Cyprus.
Yes Sancti the thought had crossed my mind that Francis was a relation.
Best Regards to you both

Cumbernauld Archives don't have the reference numbers for any poor law applications they hold You have to search the database at the Mitchell Library before going to Cumbernauld
