There were British Troops in Borneo and then there was the emergence of Malaysia as a state but combat had finished in 1966 but still a military presence in the area as they policed "the end of empire days" in that area.

Ady is correct, they were part of the 28th Commonwealth Brigade which included British, Australian, Gurkhas and New Zealand Forces as well as the Malay Field Police. General Sukarno of Indonesia had "designs" on Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak in Borneo and mainland Malaya.
General Sukarno had given up his "Confrontation of The Malay States and Singapore when a Peace Treaty in Paris brought hostilities to an end in 1966.
The Life Guards were deployed in Singapore, Seremban and Sarawak as Armoured Recce Units equipped with Ferret Scout Cars.
Many Australian Forces stayed until the 1970/71 and went to Vietnam from there.
