I think I can help you there, sounds like our Griffith family, Killeshandra.
Your last name isn`t Griffith by any chance in Aussie?
I have lots of info out there on the net.
Sue.

Dear Sue, I must apologise for not answering your post.  I have not had luck and so did not visit that often.

Can you tell me about your Griffiths?   No my surname is not Griffith.  I was researching for a third party and when I could not find anything I put it down to no one knowing anything to help me.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Lesley

Dear Lesley,
Thank you for your reply as I know three researchers, two in Queensland and one in NSW, like myself, who are related to this Griffith branch and have lots of info, unfortunately, my scanner still isn`t working so I will forward your email on to Nelle who I know will be happy to help and lives in Queensland.
I`d been in contact with a Lesley Griffith from Sydney some years ago who had passed on his research to me which has helped us enormously and we tried to track him down with out success, after his retirement, so we could pass on the updates.
So I thought at last we have found Leslie. Sorry for the over reaction.
Thank to Lesley, we know who you are talking about.
William Simon Griffith, born 1835/6 Ireland, married Mary Anne Adeline Switzer in 1860,
William died 16 January 1900.
You might have seen other info on the net by Robyne, Gillian and myself regarding the Simon Griffith & Rachell Matchett.
Simon Griffith was born in  Co Longford, Ireland and died before 1859. He was a Military Captain in the Scottish/ British Infantry and was also a Postmaster.
Simon married about 1809 Rachel Matchell/tt. I cant type anymore info on this site  because it won`t show what I`m typing so I`ll send you a personal email
Sue.

I could well be the Leslie Griffith that you are searching for.   I am a descendant of Simon Griffith and Rachel Matchett.  The following children of Simon and Rachel migrated to Australia between 1841 and 1863 Richard Griffith (b. circa 1810) and Eliza Bleakely
William Griffith (b. circa 1815) and Annie Lananze
Thomas Griffith (b. circa 1824)and Jane Bleakley  (my direct line via their second son William

The remaining children of Simon and Rachel (Simon, b.16 Jul 1821), Elizabeth (b.14 Apr 1825), Rachel (b. 9 Sept 1828) are a mystery

Note: Richard spelt his family name with an "s" the others ..... migrating to Australia .... no.

I have done little research in recent times but have a sound knowledge of the Australian side but as for Ireland I have drawn only blanks.  On a visit to Cavan in 1990 I met with an Albert Griffith but we were unable to secure a link.

I am looking forward to adding to the debate.

Les

Stone the crows, where did you come out of the woodwork. We did try to track you down, especially Nelle. Rang up all the old researchers, who had mostly died and no one seemed to know where you and your good wife had moved too.
I will send you a personal email with email address.
Sue.

Hi Sue.

Thanks for replying. I have no other info but have just received the following.

Tithe Applotment Books c1830 has one listing for the name William Arnold in the Cavan/Leitrim area. This William is recorded in the townland of Cullies in the parish of Carrigallen on the borders of counties Cavan and Leitrim borders. Copy attached

Cheers,

Gary.

James Arnold, 26, bachelor, farmer, of Cullies (father: Richard Arnold, farmer) to Elizabeth Arnold, 21, spinster, of Cullies (father: John Arnold, farmer) on Feb.22, 1855, in the Meetinghouse, Carryallen(?), County Leitrim. Charles Arnold was a witness. Found this info on web site Earls Family Chronicles by Christopher Earls Brennan. Not your William Arnold but could be his family. Sue.

Hi there, from the 1821 Census for Carrigallen Parish there were three Arnold families in Dumbrick Townland - John born about 1781, with wife Isabella and 5 children, Thomas born about 1780, with wife Jane and 6 children aand William b. 1771 with wife Lilly and 7 children.  None of their children are named Joseph. Presumably they are all related, probably brothers. There were other Arnold families in two adjacent Townlands, Mullyaster - Edward b. 1784 and Frances with 3 children,  and another in Corglafs, no husband with Anne Arnold and 4 children. I am descended from Edward. There were also other Arnold families in the Townlands of Cullies and Guladuff which are several miles south of the above Townlands. Again, no sign of a Joseph.  It is of course possible that Joseph was a grandchild of one of the above and or moved to Dumbrick or one of the northern Townlands in the Parish.  Some of the landlords had holdings in different areas and I have one case where one family seems to have moved from Killeshandra to Carrigallen (10+ miles?) so I guess anything is possible as to where they came from or where they went.  I have copies of some old records showing where the Townlands actually were and even where the rental sites were within some Townlands.  Let me know more specifically some dates so that I can determine if there is anything else I can add.  I also have some records of the Arnold descendants of Edward and his wife Frances Sherritt in subsequent generations in Canada, the US and Australia.  Good luck. GeoffreyS                         Looks like there is already a lot of info about the Arnold family on this site as well as on Google to keep you busy. All the best with your family tree. Sue.

Hi Sue.

Thanks very much for your help. I don't expect to find the forebears of William Arnold or Jane Griffith(s) but if by some miracle I do I will certainly let you know.

Cheers,

Gary.
