they had there first child in frodsham, lancashire in 1882,
Frodsham is in Cheshire! ;D
The nearest marriage I can find is in Salford:
June qtr 1878
Salford district vol 8d, page 180
Grady, Miachael
+ and on the same page +
Deegan, Mary Ellen
Is there any chance that Mary Ellen was married before?
-
Yes I came up with the same as above.
1881Both married living Frodsham Cheshire No children
1891 at bake House Lane Latchford Cheshire with following children
John H son 9 (1982) B Frodsham Cheshire
Thomas " 6 B Warrington Lancs
William " 4 " "
Mary E. " 2 B Latchford Cheshire.
Theres this Birth on BMd John Hubert Grady Sept qtr 1882 Runcorn (Cheshire) 8a 223.
Yousaid first child born 1887 which would be William. So looking like this was Mary Ellen 2nd Marriage.
Will look for a marriage in Lancs Deegan/Grady

Hi,
If you look at www.lancashirebmd.org uk for 1878 you will see that Mary E Deegan (transcribed as May) married John McQuillan and Michael Grady married Mary J Muldoon/Muldon.
Back to the drawing board.

hi jacques that will be my mum looking aswell thanks anyway, been looking for ages, i found in 1875 a michael grady from lancaster in the criminal registers served 5yrs for unlawful wounding, dont know if its him but could anyone tell me if they were allow to marry in prisons at this time?
-
CheshireBMD shows births which match all the children in the 1891 census entry, which probably means that the couple were pretty truthful about their own details too.
-
... Then I realised that St. Martins and Wem are 15 miles apart, so Mary Ellen may not be that reliable.
Wem had its own registration district, while St. Martins came under Oswestry.
No Mary Ellen Stokes under either of them in the right timeframe, but there is a Mary Elizabeth Stokes in Oswestry Q3 of 1847.
-
The girl born in St Martins in 1847 appears with her parents William and Elizabeth in 1851 and 1861. William is an Ag Lab in 1861.
There are two plain Mary Stokes registered in Oswestry to match the age we need for 1881 & 1891. One of these is with parents Job and Mary in 1851 & 1861. Job is a labourer in a coal mine in 1861.
