Anne JOHNSON (nee SMALL) b. 18 Jun 1825 Kissing Point, NSW d. 1 Aug 1904 Chatsworth Island, Clarence River, NSW
Anne SMALL & William JOHNSON were married 27 Jun 1846 Woodford Island, Clarence River, NSW
Am trying to find a death record for her husband William JOHNSON.
William JOHNSON left his wife about 1870. No trace can be found.

This is too much of a co-incidence to be the person you are looking for but I'll put it up anyway - unfortunately common names make it difficult. Age seems possible.
SMH has a death notice for a William JOHNSON, age 49 of Clarence River, 1877
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13393309?
This looks to be the corresponding index entry (NSW BMD) for this death so you can eliminate it if you know his mother's name.
1877 William JOHNSON, mother: EUPHEMIA, death registered at GRAFTON #5486 (No father's name given)

Hi Judith
Thanks for the quick reply

Hi there,
From this online site: http://family.joint.net.au/index.php?mid=1&cid=153
(Grevilles 1872 Directory, credited to "Special Thanks to Kathy Pearson for her time in transcribing and distributing these documents")
There’s several entries indexed for the surname JOHNSON at Chatsworth Island .... could they be related? If so, then perhaps if they were brothers, then a check of their m.c.s or their d.c.s may give likely names for William’s parents. And of course that would help in the search for his d.c.
JOHNSON Ambrose farmer Warregah Is. Chatsworth Island
JOHNSON William farmer --- Chatsworth Island
JOHNSON Benjamin farmer --- Chatsworth Island
I note there’s a death indexed for 1890 #7051 and registered at Lismore, for an Ambrose Johnson, parents recorded as James and Maria.

Hi JM
William Johnson was the on who was at:
From Walter Samson & Co., New South Wales National Directory 1867 - 1868 The Clarence
Johnson W (at Tyndale)
He had a property on the Coldstream River called "Coldstream Station"
His wife Anne Johnson (nee Small) resided at the property at Tyndale NSW known as "Bondi"after his disappearance.
What became of William Johnson is still a mystery.

Hi, I am a direct descendant of this William Johnson.
I have been searching for any birth or death records for him as well.
Would love to have more information about him. I do have his marriage certificate but it doesn't show any birth details or parents' names unfortunately

Thanks Judith, yes I have those articles from Trove. each generation has had a William Johnson in it like most other families. Gets confusing if you dont check the dates as well. thanks again. I will keep searching. :-)

I'm wondering if a birth certificate of one of the children would give more information.
Also, have you tried asking for information from the Clarence River Historical Society in Grafton? They do have some information on the Small family as they are Clarence River pioneers and first fleet convicts.

I have been thinking the same. I will apply for my gr grandfathers birth certificate I think and hop ut shows something. Thanks
