Title: Help with name on Birth certificate (Titchener family)
Post by: NHS0330 on Sunday 24 July 11 13:02 BST (UK)
Hi guys,

Recently ordered a Birth certificate for my Great Great Grandmother Emma Louise Titchener.

Gave me some very good info but im stuggling to decipher her mothers maiden name.

Clear to see her fathers name is Frank Thomas Titchener and her mothers first name is Emma.

In regards to her maiden name, obviously the last 4 letters are 'hall'
The first letter is an 'S' i believe, due to the writing being identical to the 'S' used to state her birth date which was the 'Twenty Second'

I think the 2nd letter is a 'u', the 3rd a 't' and the 4th an 'e' which would give me Sutehall yet im struggling to find a birth Index or marriage index record for an Emma Sutehall which makes me think thats not right.

Maybe there is an 'i' in there or the 1st letter is a 'L' or 'T'.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Birth was 22 Jan 1885, some records say Louisa as her middle name but the Birth cert says Louise.

Any ideas on mothers maiden name?

not yet, I wanted to see when the lass was born so I could find the parents - birthplaces and ages etc on a census, and then try and work back.

I cant see Frank T Titchener after the 1881 census tho' ....

This birth is in the UK isnt it? The Brighton one?

I see that Emma and some siblings are step-children of Edwin Walden or Walder in the 1891 census - he is with an Emma born c1859, Surrey Chelse??

The oldest child is Millicent Titch*, born c1882, Brighton ... the youngest Clara, c1887.

There are 2 Walmer kids, aged 2 and the other 6 months, so that helps to look for a marriage of Edwin & Emma.

RG12/Piece: 807 Folio 47 Page 40 Brighton St Peter.

In 1901, the Titch* kids have taken the Walder/n name and Mum Emma more clearly states Chelsea as her PoB

I think she is Emma Sutchall on the 1871 census born 1858 Chelsea.

And Emma SUTHALL, 22 b London, in service in Brighton in 1881: RG11/1084/111/4. Different indexes may have different versions of surname.
