Title: Worthingtons and Standings of Hassocks / Burgess Hill area
Post by: MurphysLaw on Friday 22 July 11 17:40 BST (UK)
Hi,
Am looking for the Worthingtons who lived in the above areas. They were my great grandparents. Walter Worthington b.1888 and Alice Eliza Worthington b.1890 (Nee Standing) they had several children SOME of which were Harry, William, Alfred and Leonard and Rose. They moved to the Croydon area hence me being born there to the daughter of one of their still living daughters......

I am searching for the Worthington side and Standing side of my family so if anyone can pass on info I would find this beneficial as I am working on a surprise presentation for my nans birthday as she knows little about her folks. I have a bit more info should anyone require it.

Hoping you can help

Murf

thanks every one

Groom- I am unsure which bunch are my family as you have spoken of two... i think the charwoman is least likely but is there any way of telling which of the two families are mine?

Thanks

Hi

I think they are the same family in 1891 and 1901, with perhaps Rose being widowed, although she describes herself as married still.  I'm not sure about the two older sons in 1901 though, I'll see if I can find the family in 1871.

Where abouts in Croydon are you from- are you still associated with the area at all?

Looks like he married twice - 1838 to a Fanny, who he is with in 1851 census, and the Mary you mention in late 1850s .....

Use FreeBMD:- http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Hi

As Mort said, if you use Freebmd you can find these marriages. Just put in the groom's name and the first name of the bride, rough dates and Hampshire. It gives these results

Worthington - Ropley & Sussex

I'm researching Worthingtons of Ropley.  Michael, son of Michael & Fanny, joined the R Navy & ended up in Portsmouth.  Think he was my husband's gt grandfather.  Bit of a mystery though as to whether he was or his brother was!

One of the Worthington family, an infant, was buried with a Hoare member in a common grave in Portsmouth, too.
