This picture has always been refered to as the 3 grannies picture. The lady at the back is my Great grandmother Mary Agnes Massarotti and the front left is Mary Sarah Shepherd, her mother. The oldest lady, I was told was a French lady in the family. From doing a bit of research I think she may be Mary Sarah’s mother whose married name was Tourle which has some French origins but I don't think the family were from France. Mary Agnes was married in 1897 when she was 26, I think this photo was taken a couple of years before that. A more accurate date would be nice plus a little touch up with colour :)

The young woman has a sleeve style called a gigot or leg-o-mutton which dominated fashion early - late 1890's,she also has a pigeon breast blouse which did the same early 1900's.I have seen the gigot sleeve early 1900's & the pigeon breast blouse v.late 1890's but I've never seen the 2 together. The outfit is finished with hip-padding & a silk waist band.
Mother has a similar style sleeve but with lace edging which by this time was becoming increasingly popular as the price of lace came down but was more common in the early 1900's.
I would suggest the earliest this could be was 1897/8 & latest 1900.
I would think that if she'd just married she would be displaying her wedding ring.
Grandma appears to be in mourning as she has what appears to be crape banding around her cuffs.

Wow you guys all do such fantastic work. They are all stunning thank you so much. Thanks Jim for the dating, if the dates are towards the end of the 1890s and even 1900 that would fit with some dates that I have of the people in the photo.
