There's an Edward Armitage, aged 10, living with parents William & Charlotte in 1841. Mustards Hill, Hoylandswaine.

Thanks for your replies,

Z,
I am sure this is the Benjamin I am looking for. I couldn't find him on FindMyPast, even though I had the box ticked for variants, but they have indexed the name as Benjiman, instead of Benjamin, but it should have picked it up.

As Benjamin remains unmarried, maybe this Edward (bn 1821) is also a family member.

Cheers  :)

Possibly Edward's father, William (b. abt 1805) is the brother of Benjamin?

Hi Sandra,

Anything's possible.

I would love to know who the father was of the William Armitage who married Charlotte.

If I am right with my theory though this Benjamin didn't have a brother called William.

I have his parents as Edward & Mary

I am trying to link various Armitage families in the vague possibility that I might find the father of one of my Armitages.

I live in hope.

There's a baptism at Cawthorne 23 Nov. 1792 for Benjamin, son of Edward.

Hi,
That's the one, and buried at Cawthorne in 1869.

Edward Armitage, 10
+ siblings
Address - Mustard Hill, Silkstone, Hoyland Swaine

FreBMD Death Reg - Edward Armitage, Sep 1848, Wortley, 22 518
FamilySearch Burials - Edward Armitage, 13 Sep 1848, Silkstone, York

1851 (HO107  2334  125  20)
Benjamin Armitage, H, Unm, 58, Farmer of 55 acres (1 labourer), Cawthorne
Edward Armitage, Serv, Unm, 18, Farm Serv, Hoyland Swaine

Amelia Armitage, Wife, Marr, 57, Hoyland Swaine
Edward Armitage, Son, Unm, 29, Ag Lab, Hoyland Swaine
Address - Mount Pleasant, fell Lane, Hoyland Swaine

There are 2 Edwards in Mustard Hill, Hoyland Swaine in 1841 - of similar age.
An Edward dies in 1848 age 18
An Edward is back living with parents John and Amelia in 1861. Is this the Edward that was living with Benjamin in 1851. If yes, what is the relationship between Benjamin Armitage c. 1793 and John Armitage c. 1800?

Hi,
Interesting question, would like to know the answer.

The Silkstone Burials does not state a relationship for Edward aged 18, just the address Hoylandswaine, but I also think it is the child of William & Charlotte.
Looking yesterday I came to the conclusion that the Edward with Benjamin in 1851 was possibly the child of John & Amelia Armitage.

I would like find the son of George Armitage, John, who was bapt 20 Oct 1802 Silkstone.
This could be the John who married Amelia.
John & Amelia's daughter Hannah I think married Jonathan Lockwood, which could also be a link for me.

I am working from two different angles, I have a direct Armitage family, and one connected through a female marriage.

It does get very convoluted.

Thanks for your input.

FreeSearch has the baptism of John Armitage, 17 Oct 1802, father Benjamin, at Snaith. This is somewhat outside the Wortley area where the Armitages mentioned so far are to be found.

I feel it is John and Amelia's son Edward that is with Benjamin in1851.

There is a Benjamin Armitage, age 60, Farmer, address Cobley Green, Penistone on the 1841 Census. This gives a date of birth of 1781 - 1784 allowing for rounding down. Wondered if this might be the 1851 Benjamin?. In 1841 the household is Benjamin, wife Hannah and servant Hannah. Hannah Armitage could have died between 1841 and 1851 leaving Benjamin on his own. Might his age have been "understated" in 1851?

So much speculation!

Too many Benjamins.

That Benjamin (aged 60) is also on the same page as another Benjamin aged 50, in 1841.

I think it is a different Benjamin than the one on South Lanes Cawthorne (1851).

As you say so much speculation.

Good job we like puzzles !
