I was wondering if anyone can look up Robert Boal and Ellen Jane Boal for me. I would also love if anyone could take a photo of the headstone if possible. I don't know if any other Boal names are in that cemetery.
Thank you
Sharon

Hi, Sharon
Success!
I found the grave of your relation and took a photo. It's in my pictures file but I couldn't get the hang of inserting a copy using Rootschat. If you can let me have your e-mail address I can then send it to you as an attachment. It's not very clear as I used my phone camera but I might be able to take a clearer one later on my regular camera. My wife, Maureen, said she will clean the headstone so I get more clarity. Also we'll lay some flowers for you.
The inscription reads:
My Dearly Beloved Husband
Robert Leach Boal OBE
who died Nov. 17th 1923 aged 60 years
also Ellen Jane beloved wife of above
died May 24th 1950 aged 82 years
Rest in Peace
I dont know how he obtained his OBE (order of the British Empire); my friend just assumed it was for services to drama and the arts. I couldn't find a number on the headstone but the rectory for St. Cross church is located at:
54 Clayton Hall Road, Clayton, Manchester. M11 4WH
tel: 0161 223 0766 You can e-mail them via the website for the Church of Manchester Anglican Church list. I go on holiday on Wednesday for 2 weeks but when I get back I'll visit the County Records Office where they have all the local newspapers from the 1920/50s to look for death and burial notices re. the Boals. Meanwhile, go to Manchester City Council Archives website. Click archive catalogue, local images, go to Find: Type in Ashton New Road. Image ID. 12350 shows no; 407 which must have been close to where Ellen Jane lived. There are also images of St. Cross church and school - which I attended many moons ago. On the council website the microfiche number for burials at the church is also given (MFPR 1320). I'll look this up at Manchester Central Library later for any further info. Incidently, Prestwich was the previous address for Manchester registrar offices but didn't mean that the people on the listings for BMD actually lived in that area.
Bye for now,
Rick
The bit you don't have.
Ellen Jane Boal buried 27th May 1950
died at 23 stokes street, Clayton
Age 82
Grave number 1940

So is there a reason why you have posted another request for the same information?
-
I had reposted this again because my computer crashed and I lost all photos. I am sorry if I am asking too much reposting.

Hi Sharon
Please don't feel like you are on trial - you are "NOT" with only 11 post's since joining in (09) you are still a newbie.
We do get some rootschatters who ask the same questions over and over but maybe wrote in a different way, which gets the heckles up on others who have already been/done/seen that etc.
Just add a small comment as to why you are covering old ground should get you the help you requested.
Hope you get your photo now ;)

Still can't find anything on his O.B.E. ?
-
I have searched every online record for mention of his OBE. I still haven't come across anything, but there has to be some place that keeps an ongoing record of who receives them wouldn't you think?? I am still searching.

I think that the London Gazette reported on any honours - it's free to search the archive here:

Unless Derik has already checked this?

Contact the place that gives them out - Buck Palace/Royals, go to website and email everyone until they direct you to the archives.
As they only started in 1917 they wont have much to search ;D

Thank you I will try to find their email addresses and start emailing them. I did search everything I could online, and only found that it had something to do with Drama and arts. Thank you everyone for all the ideas you have mentioned, sooner or later I will find it.
Thank you wonderful group
