Hi all,
Looking for information on the Greenhorn family of Blantyre.
My Grandmother Annie Law Greenhorn married name Joyce was born on the 17th July 1919.Blantyre.
Her parents were Thomas Hill Greenhorn born Bothwell Park 04/10/1884.
He married Jane Smart Smith on 14/07/1905. Stanefield Blantyre.
A mining family of 19 children,I have traced one other sibling Nellie who married Dan Connelly.
I still have 17 siblings to find and was wondering if any fellow rootschatters could help.
cheers,
Billy.

Billy, there was a Davy Greenhorn had a pub in Cumbernauld village, many moons ago! Skoosh.

Hi Skoosh,
Thanks for the info,I will check it out.
cheers,
Billy.

19 children, Billy...that is a big family even by big family standards!
Hard period to research in for you. Checked to see whether there may have been any military service papers for father Thomas, but nothing (this can be a source to check for children's names/birth years for the period) but nothing unfortunately.
Hope someone recognises some of the names for you from their own research :)
Monica

Billy, the Greenhorn's pub in Cumbernauld was the Masonic Arms, he died years ago and the pub is boarded up. Very sad, a historic old place. Skoosh.

Hi Monica,
Their father was a miner,
I got the no.19 from a book written by a cousin of my mothers who i cannot mention here,he could be out by one or two but i recon they would have taken up half the street were they lived.
Their mother would probably have been known as 'yon womin wae awe oh they weans'
Trolling Scotlandspeople is slow but i have 2 children only 17 to find,
Somebody somewhere will remember the Greenhorn Clan.
cheers,

Headstone in Holytown cemetery for William Greenhorn husband of Annie Stoddart

Hi all.
I am also looking for information for David Anderson Greenhorn born in 1894 in Blantyre. He was married to Helen Hill and had, as far as I can see, an illegitimate son, Alexander David Greenhorn born abt 1920 with Agnes Tweedie Downie. The family folklore said that the son had no resemblance to the other siblings. He was ordered to pay maintenance for this child. Are these people part of the Greenhorn clan of Blantyre and does anyone know anything about them, any stories? David Anderson Greenhorn passed away in Australia in 1967 (which is where I am conducting the research from)
Thank you for your time.
