Hello
Can anybody help me out with my printer please before it is thrown out of the window? ::)
It is a Canon PIXMA MP140
It won't scan because it has no colour ink cartridge... it has a black ink cartridge but apparently that wont do ::)
I don't want to print ( at the minute anyway, not that I can now, I've tried as it refuses! ) :'(
I can't even press any buttons on the printer/scanner to fix it as it stuck on flashing E 5 at me :'(
Do I really have to go out and buy a 20 quid cartridge or is there another way around it?
-
My Epson did exactly the same!
Thankfully my ink carts are cheaper.

It's annoying isn't it? It doesn't even make any sense for it not to scan?! ... Wanna swap printers/scanners? ;D
-
I take it the 20 quid is for an original?
What about supermarket price.
Brian
-
17 in Tescos :-\ That's the only supermarket we have near us :-\
Still, 3 pound off is alright I 'spose ;D
I just don't fancy paying it to scan one photograph ::) :D
-
Depending on the urgency, find a friend with scanner.
Look at other suppliers of inks, usually cheaper online/ multiple carts.
Brian
-
Sell scanner, switch to it's rival ;D
Ohh, thank you, I never thought to look online for one, what a doughnut ::) ;D ;D
-
Argos,Staples are but 2 large suppliers.
W H Smith, Tesco, Aldi, Wm Morrison, ASDA, PC World etc
That is before you start to look online.

Thank you Brian ;D
I'll check them all out and compare prices ;D ;D

If you have the old cartridge, remove it, put it back in and tell the computer that it is a new one and then lie your way through the set up procedure. It obviously won't print in colour but it should scan and print using the black cartridge.
I have a completely different printer but that worked for me.

Now I wish I hadn't of binned it :D

I've used both these companies:
http://www.ijtdirect.co.uk/2644/Canon-Pixma-MP140/
http://www.choicestationery.co.uk/printer3_o.asp?printer_selection=5498&group_selection=9&manu_selection=10
IJT Direct is a bit cheaper than Choice Stationary.

Thank you so much for the links, they're the cheapest I've come across ;D
-
So it seems to be - even if the cartridge is empty, leave it in the machine. This appears to be the answer, but too late now if you've thrown it !! >:(
-
Are you perhaps telling your printer that it will be scanning a coloured photograph?

Probably yes :D
If I could just get the E5 to stop flashing, then from what I've read I should be able to scan after it's been reset... But it just aint happening :'( ;D

Go line and try look for a compony called(Inkredable)Very cheap, lots of choices, good luck

Thank you pielip ;D ;D

At this rate, the other print cartridge will have dried up.
(I always try and use my printer on a weekly basis, even if its only a test page)

:o
I didn't even know it could do that!
Well, it definitely hasn't dried up yet.... Took the cartridge out to reset the printer and forgot to put it back in yesterday... fair to say it's leaked a bit ::)

If you are desperate to scan and want to take a risk then there appears to be a service mode to over-ride the error code. This may or may not work or screw up your printer.

Wow that info is so helpful GBay.
Sometimes my scanner goes pear shaped with similar problem.
Holding down a reset button must be the easiest way to cure any computer related problem.
I have book marked the page!
Thanks again

Not sure if this will work for your scanner, but can you get into the maintainance menu and then tell it to work from only the cartridge you have in the machine. Sorry I have just read through the thread and already forgotten which cartridge you are missing ::)
I have a different cannon and can get it to run from just one cartrdige if needed.
