Title: Leaden/Leydon family of Ireland
Post by: hully1 on Monday 18 July 11 17:26 BST (UK)
Hi

I am researching my husbands family and was wondering in anyone else is also looking into the Leaden family.  My husbands grandfather was a Matthew Leaden born dublin city 1917. His father was Patrick Leaden from dublin city and his father was Patrick Leaden from Castledown county derry. I have the details from the 1901 and 1911 with help from his marriage certificate. Does anyone else have any information on the family.

Regards
hully

... and his father was Patrick Leaden from Castledown county derry.

The only townland called Castledown I can find in Ireland is in Co. Westmeath.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. On the 1911 census it says Castledawson, Co Derry. He is 66 on here and living with his son patrick and his family.

Hi there hully1,

Try the following link for info on Castledawson, Derry from 1910.

http://www.libraryireland.com/UlsterDirectory1910/Castledawson.php

Two entries under inhabitants may be of interest:
Louden, James, cattledealer
Louden, Patrick, butcher.

Cheers

Hi

Great minds think alike i was just on that site.

I have them living in Mount joy dublin in 1911 and 1901. Both Matthew and his father patrick were born dublin city and were both plasterers. Patricks father Patrick was the one born in castledawson county derry. I hope this makes sense.

Hi hully,

I found the following entry in Griffith's Valuation for a Patrick Leaden from 1859. There is also one for a Peter Leaden in the same Cahore townland.

Griffiths Valuation Record Information

  Tenant  : Patrick LEADEN
  Landlord  : Hugh LANE
  County : LONDONDERRY
  Barony:  Loughinsholin
  Union:  Magherafelt
  Parish:  Ballynascreen
  Townland: Cahore
  Printing Date : 1859
  Sheet Number  40  / Map Ref.  41

Could this be a relation?

PS this is a great site for GV - it presents a view of the original entries and the associated maps.  link (http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&familyname=LEADEN&wildcard=on&firstname=PATRICK&baronyname=&countyname=LONDONDERRY&unionname=&parishname=&Submit.x=16&Submit.y=14)

Cheers.
