Hi all,
Does anyone have a 1901 census for the Neath area, that can look up the following family please.
In 1891, this is them.
Evan Bassett 43 Peterstow condiment man(spices)
Julia Bassett 35 Hereford laundress
Albert Lewis 8 stepson
Mary Lewis 4 stepdaughter
Thomas Lewis 14 stepson
They were living at 101 London Road, Neath in 1891 too.
Many thanks

Hi Julie
I couldn't find Evan and Julia Basset in the Neath 1901 census but I did find the following which could possibly be them.
RG13/5058 Neath, Folio 25
20 Queen Street, Neath
Julia Lewis head widow 45 laundress Herefordshire Credley
Albert Lewis son 18 grocers haulier Glam, Neath
Mary Lewis dau 14 bookbinder Glam, Neath
Esther Banister boarder widow 78 Herefordshire, Pelton
William Budge boarder 38 cab driver Cornwall, Wadebridge
J Perkins boarder 50 spirit cellarman Pembs, Narberth
There is also a death record in 1893 of an Evan Basset age 45 at Neath.
Regards...Seren

Cheers Seren,
This is them, thanks. Ester Bannister the boarder is her mother, so it is a bit of a giveaway.
Is there any sign of Thomas Lewis though, even if he is not with the family. At 24 years old, he could well be married. I'd appreciate another look Please.
Many thanks

There is a Thomas B LEWIS born Neath, boarding with an Ann MEYRICK in Aberavon.
The trouble is, without the family to provide a context, it is hard to know for sure whether it is him!
The only Thomas LEWIS of about the right age in Neath is with his family and is born Cardiganshire.
Do you know anything else about him that might help locate him?
kind regards, Arranroots

Hi Julie
I can't see a Thomas Lewis in the 1901 who fits the bill, but that's not to say he isn't there as it's quite a common name!
There is a death record which fits though:
Thomas Lewis age 16, June quarter, Neath 1893

Hi Arranroots, and Seren,
Thank you both for looking.
Arranroots, I think I will look into the death that Seren has mentioned, as even my mother didn't know that her grandfather had a brother called Thomas, and this is possibly why. Also, as his stepfather Evan Bassett was listed as dying in 1893 as well, maybe they had an accident together, or caught some illness together. If this is not the case, I hope I can come back and request further information.
Cheers
