Yes his mother was Mary Bona from Carmathen not sure what happened there but Griffith changed his name to Lewis by 1901 and on his marriage certificate names his father as Benjamin. Benjamin I am sure was born in Carmarthen possibly St Peters.
A very complicated family!!! Mary Bona id not marry Benjamin as it appears Eliza was responsible for his upbringing.

Do you think they could have been in a work house or something like that

is the 1861 census complete as I wondered if that is why I cannot find Eliza and Benjamin?

As far as I am aware it's complete but there are always pages that are so faint they cannot be transcribed and there are always people who escape the census for whatever reason

Keep looking though as mis-transcriptions are being reported all the time.

I found my Wright family transcribed as Bradbury in 1861 - the transcriber had used their next door neighbours surname!!
