I am looking for information on Eliza Lewis daughter of Griffith and Ann she was born around 1824 an unmarried mother of 1 son Benjamin born around 1855 I have searched and cannot find them on the 1861 census at all. A ny help appreciated.
-
Was Benjamin also born in Carmarthenshire or elsewhere
-
Is this the correct 1881 entry - all b Carmarthen?
Eliza Lewis 60 unmarried
Benjamin 25 son
Griffith Bona 2 grandson
-
Yes his mother was Mary Bona from Carmathen not sure what happened there but Griffith changed his name to Lewis by 1901 and on his marriage certificate names his father as Benjamin. Benjamin I am sure was born in Carmarthen possibly St Peters.
A very complicated family!!! Mary Bona id not marry Benjamin as it appears Eliza was responsible for his upbringing.

have to admit that I can't find Eliza and Benjamin in 1861 either
-
Do you think they could have been in a work house or something like that
-
They would still be on the census. I have searched for Benj** and Ben** b 1854-1857 Carmarthenshire but no entry fits
-
A complete mystery isn't it anoying when you cannot fit the puzzle. Thanks anyway. ???
-
is the 1861 census complete as I wondered if that is why I cannot find Eliza and Benjamin?
-
As far as I am aware it's complete but there are always pages that are so faint they cannot be transcribed and there are always people who escape the census for whatever reason
Keep looking though as mis-transcriptions are being reported all the time.
I found my Wright family transcribed as Bradbury in 1861 - the transcriber had used their next door neighbours surname!!
-
how odd thanks
-
Just found out that Pryory Street Carmarthen was part of the damamged 1961 census.
-
How annoying!! Why is it always the part you want that's missing??
