Is there anyone who lives near the Southern Cemetery in Manchester who could visit and take a digital photo of a plot for me please. HRoman Catholic section, grave 645, a family with the name of Turtle. There are 5 in the plot, Wm 1912, Ellen 1944, Wm 1970, George Alfred 1972 & Mary Elizabeth 1982.
The reason for this request is that I have conflicting parents for George Alfred Turtle who died in 1972 and I cant find 2 George Alfred's who died in 1972.
Any help appreciated, thanks

Is it the date of birth you need? The George Alfred Turtle who died in 1972 was born on 06 September 1888. I think he was living in Hulme, Manchester in 1891, parents William and Agnes.
One died in Stockport in 1992 dob 15 October 1918.
-
Thanks for your reply. Yes I wanted the birth date but thought he may be the son of John William Turtle and Ellen and brother of John William and Mary Elizabeth who are in the plot with him. Might be 15 years out with age though.
I would like to know if those in the plot are parents and their children or related in some way and perhaps where they were born.
Thanks
Heather

The George Alfred Turtle born 1904, son of John William and Ellen Turtle may be the one who died in Eastbourne in 1972, dob 28 June 1904.
-
I think John William Turtle born 1876 and George Alfred Turtle born 1888, were brothers, sons of William and Agnes.
-
Looks like the grave in Southern Cemetery is that of John William Turtle, who died 1912 aged 36, wife Ellen who died 1944 aged 66, son William born 1908 who died 1970, son George Alfred born 1904, who died 1972 and daughter Mary Elizabeth born 1902, died 1982, brother, nieces and nephews of George Alfred Turtle born 1888! All these George Alfred's get confusing!
-
Confusing for sure. So the George Alfred Turtle buried in 1972 in the plot is not the one born in 1888 as stated on the death index. Will check this out. Looks like 2 George Alfred's died in 1972, now need to find the other one on the index who died in Jun qtr in Manchester. I agree I think he is the brother of John William too.
Thanks so much.

You would have to pay to look at the actual images of the burial records to be sure who is in the plot. The image gives the age and address of the person buried.
The online cemetery records don't give records of cremations but you may be able to get that info from the cemetery.
George Alfred Turtle died Manchester 1972, born 06 September 1888.
George Alfred Turtle died Eastbourne 1972, born 28 June 1904.
George Alfred Turtle died Stockport 1992, born 15 October 1918. I think he was the son of a George Alfred Turtle who married Edith Warren in 1909! In the 1911 census they had a son Leo and could have had other children, Edith 1913, George P 1918 and Mary J 1924.
Hope that's of some help!
-
Yes its a big help, thanks.
I am after Leo's family from his father George Alfred b. 1888 back so thank you. If anyone can find where the other George Alfred Turtle b.1888 who died in 1972 is buried I would be an extremely happy camper!

Had a look on the burial records. The George Alfred Turtle buried 1972 Manchester was 68, so born in 1904. I've saved the record if you want it.

It could be that that G A Turtle born 1888 was cremated. You could try emailing the Manchester Crematorium, which is situated next to Southern Cemetery.

Thanks so much for this information. Yes I would like the burial details for the one in 1972 just to show I can eliminate him. I am truly not sure if the one I am after was Roman Catholic as I thought it was the one in Southern Cemetery but alas no, but it is certainly worth checking them out.
Thanks everyone,
Heather

Hello,
I have just found quite a few of my ancestors on the 'Manchester online burials' page, all of them were burried at Southern Cemetery, so i'm now hoping to visit the Cemetery next month (August)
I live in the manchester area.
I can have a look for you Turtle family if you want?

Thanks Alison,

Anthony Lee Turtle & Marie Lily Turtle are also in the Southern Cemetery but not RC. They are in Church of England part plot 1698 if you can find them.

Hi Heather,
It's no problem, i have never been to Southern Cemetery before, but after finding about 10 ancestors burried there, i decided that i will take a trip there next month, i've already looked up bus numbers and how to get there so i'm ready to go!!
So just to check with you, you are after:
Turtle family at: HRoman Catholic section, grave 645

If you can send me a private message with your email address, i will email the photo's when i get them, like i said it's going to be August now, possibly 2nd or 3rd week.
and if you find any other family members at this cemetery, just let me know.
