Hello.
Would anybody have any information on George Bevan b. 1816 who married Margaret Lewis in 1836 in Llangenneth? I am most interested to know who George's siblings are, also his parents as anyone who has already followed the Bevan family will know, it's a minefield! George would have been born in the Rhossili area, poss. listed as Penrice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, David

is this the family in 1851?
James St, Swansea HO107/2466 folio 236 pg 65
George Bevan head mar 35 hobler (?) on quay b. Pilton
Margaret wife 37 b. Llangennith
Sarah dau 13 b. Llangennith
James son 9 b. Llangennith
Jane dau 5 b. Llangennith
George son 3 b. Swansea
William son 1 b. Swansea
Think George's place of birth reads as Pilton, could be Pitton. Either way, they're both in the parish of Rhossili.

Thank you Osprey for a very quick response. Yes, the family you have listed in 1851 is correct and I agree that George b. 1816 could have been born in Pilton (there are so many!) Do you have any information on his siblings or parents? Thanking you in anticipation, Regards, David

sorry, I've been having a look around, but I'm not having any luck. The IGI doesn't cover Rhossili & Llangennith, so you'll need access to the records in another way. The records are held at the archives in Swansea. Although not on the IGI, the BTs have been filmed by the LDS, so you could order a copy to your nearest LDS centre.

Do you have a copy of the parish marriage to see if the names of the witnesses help? With the exact date, you could order a copy from Swansea. It's 17/11/1836 if you don't have it. If you do, it would be worth getting some other copies at the same time as the minimum charge of £5 covers 7 copies.

Thank you Osprey for the information. I will get onto the Swansea Records people and get a copy of the marriage certificate as this is the only "true" fact I have to go on. Regards, David

1841 Census (HO107 1424 13/8 11)
George and Margaret + 2 children are living in Llanmadoc(k)
1851 Census (HO107 2466 236 65)
George born Pilton/Pitton, Margaret born Llangennith
1861 Census (RG09 4102 22 38)
George born Llangennech Margaret born Llanmadoc(k)
The original image = Llangennech but has been transcribed as Llangennith. Suspect enumerator error and should be Llangennith. Llangennith readily misheard as Llangennech and vice versa!
1871 Census (RG10 5451 14 22)
Margret, Widow, born Gower
Will be in touch re 1836 marriage entry in parish register.

Have sent PM about my search for marriage record for George. While searching I did come across the following in Llanmadog/c, George's children?

Bevan, Mary bapt 16 Aug 1844, father George, labourer, mother Margaret

Hello, I did not know about Mary, perhaps because of her short life, but the other two I have a note of. This era seems quite clear but the early years!!!!!! Thanks, David

Does anyone know why everything has gone so wide? Have I broken something?

Hello, Its been a while/years since I have done any research but a new member sent me a question aboutthe Sims family and this has now given me a bit of a push, I hope.
The Bevans seem to me the hardest family to trace, my side anyway. My George I believe was born.1816 and married Margaret Lewis.
His parents (?) were Thomas and Johanna Jenkins. Thomas parents being David 1767 and Margaret Beynon.
Can anyone tell me that I am correct, please?
Regards,
David
