Hi All, I am looking for any information about Mary Graham, born Burgh, Cumberland 1876. She married Charles Albert Cork in 1895. Copy of marriage certificate gives her fathers name as David Graham [husbandman] living at Churghrigg Farm, Wigton, Cumberland. Look forward to any information. Tracy.

Hi
Have you looked for them in 1881? That census is free to search so it would be a good place to start.

There is a mary listed in freebmd for Q3 1876, wigton. If you specify fathers name and occupation, you only pay for search if it's not the right person. bob

Hi Tracey.Don't know if you've got this already-
1901 census-

Hi heywood,
Many thanks for that, I know Burgh [Brough] is spelt differently but it could be a possibility. Thankyou.
Tracy.

Church Rigg Farm was occupied by the Carr family in 1881 and 1891.
There is this:
1881 RG11; Piece: 5164; Folio: 25; Page: 16
Joseph Graham, husbandman -daughter Mary Jane 4 yrs b Wigton :-\

Hi heywood,
Thanks for the reply. Looks as if Mary was a servant at Church Rigg Farm at the time of her marriage in 1895. Still looking for info about her father David Graham [as stated on her marriage certificate] his wife, and any other siblings Mary might have had.
Many thanks Tracy. :)

Only the one mary (without other names) in Wigton for this period - Q3 1876 - which would be about right for the 1881 census. Ordering her birth cert but specifying dad's name would get you back a pace. bob

But if she was born Burgh, wouldn't the registration district be Carlisle?
-
Thanks both,
I will order birth certificate !!
Tracy. :)

Tracy, Heywood is right. I was just going off the 1881 census ref. I will check later in Carlisle for you. bob

Only a submitted record...so debatable
born abt 1844
David Graham burial 7th December 1927 Burgh by Sands ,Cumberland ....
marriage abt 1869 to Mary Ann ...submitted ...so if we look on freebmd for a death for David Graham 1927. it may give his age at death...IF the submitted record is correct, we need to find David Graham b around 1844
allan
ADDED
dec qtr 1927 GRAHAM David aged 83 Carlisle 10b 646
so b 1844 or dec qtr 1843
dec qtr 1843 Graham David Wigton 25 166
marriage sep qtr 1867 David Graham to Mary Ann Johnston Carlisle 10b 579 ?
marriage sep qtr 1875 David Graham to Mary Ann Porter Carlisle 10b 721 ?
let me check these possibles

I wouldn't order the certificate just yet - you need to weigh matters up.
If you look at Carlisle births, there is one for September 1876 and one for March 1877 - just Mary but there are several for Mary ......
There is also a death March 1877 for Mary aged 0 which could be either of these but probably the 2nd one.
Similarly, there are several marriages for David Graham 1871-1875. :-\
I keep being drawn to a family David and Mary Graham in Burgh with several children. In 1851 they have a son David b 1843 but then he disappears. Again about 4 deaths 1851-1861 so as we already know this is not an easy task!
I was wondering if Mary could be a grandaughter of this family through an illegitimate birth to a daughter perhaps and gives David as her father's name- nothing to indicate this though.
If you have access to Carlisle records, that would be great Bob.
Added: last two posts were made whilst I was doing this but I will leave it anyway.
