Howdy.
Just discovered one of my English relatives, Ernest Hurrell Trollope d 7 March 1919, described succinctly in the National Probate Calendar as: "lance-corp. 75th battalion M G C". Please, does anyone know what "M G C" stands for?
Many thanks.

Machine Gun Corps fits the bill, I believe.

He has a Medal Index Card on Ancestry entitled to British War and Victory Medals so didnt go overseas until after Jan 1916

Hi,
Just registered here today. Ernest is my cousin twice removed. His uncle Joseph was my Great Grandfather, killed in at Ypres 1917. Ernest is buried at Manor Park Cemetry (East London) along with his wife Edith Alice. He has a CWGC headstone but strangley is in the civilian part of the grounds. My wife a I visit each Christmas to pay our respects. Would be interested to know of your connection.

Hello, Geoff!
Welcome to Rootschat! Delighted to have you here! You'll find we're a friendly lot.
I, too, am a Trollope descendant. I have sent you a Personal Message (PM), explaining my connection to the family; and hopefully we might be able to 'compare notes' and share some of what we know about them?!
You cannot yourself send a PM until you have made 3 posts total on Rootschat :( -- this is for security reasons (eg to avoid scammers); but it may be (I'm not sure) you could tag a reply onto the PM I sent you. Let me know (by posting again here) if you have any problems, anyway.
I am afraid I am not sure what CWGC stands for :-[ -- would be interested to learn this.
Regards.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission!!!!
I should have read my earlier postings! Now I've mega embarrassed myself! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
So sorry -- I'm not always this dense. But it's been a while since I posted about this, and I have recently been much involved in researching another branch of the family. (Non-Trollopes).
Oh well!

Hi Again,
Have read your message but can't reply - I guess because of the 3 posts rule!
I've been interested in Genealogy for a few years (very much an armchair genealogist though) and as you might expect have quite a lot of info' on the Trollopes, especially the descendants of William and Mary.
I'll try another post after this to try to get around the PM block.
Geoff ;D

Hi Again and Again,
This is my third post so perhaps I'll be allowed to write a PM.
Lets go and see!

Hi, I would very much like some more information on the Trollopes prior to 1759 if you can help? I understand the 3 post rule so will carry browsing the forums and hope that we get the opportunity to talk.
Many thanks

Hello, G! :)
Welcome to Rootschat!
Well, I fear you are ahead of me: I am only back reliably on the Trollopes to Thomas Trollope b 31st May 1789 in Lynn, Norfolk; m Rose Fox 27th June 1813; m Mary Clarke 1834. If you have managed to trace back further than that on this line, then I should love to hear more!
Would it be impertinent to ask through which of the Trollopes you are descended?
If you would prefer to Personal Message me -- well, please feel free to do so. Now that you have made three posts, you should have no problems doing that.
Regards.

Hi Celtic Annie
I will PM you tonight when back at home, and give you more details. I am not sure we are related to the Norfolk Trollopes though as all the Trollopes in our family up to 1759 are Horningsham / Longbridge Deverill based. However, more than happy to swap notes and see if there are any connections.
