Thanks for your help Shaun, Franz did leave a will, leaving everything to his wife Winifred (my Aunt)
Its really weird, my aunt never spoke of his death to her two sons, his granson has tried in vain to find the whereabouts of his grave. I have tried " Find a Grave." but we always come to a dead end.(excuse the pun)

Hi most people would have been buried iether in West street Durban or Stellawood. cemeteries. Not sure when the West street one closed but all my family are buried at Stellawood. Not sure how you can look up the grave numbers.I think there is a office at Stellawood where one can look up the info.Unfortunately I now live in OZ otherwise I would go look for you.
Cheers Derek

Hi Maddy have a look at the info at the top of the post relating to ordering certificates etc through the eggsa in South Africa. They may also be able to help you find his grave.
Good luck Derek

Hi Derek
Have done so much searching this past week I have nearly blown the computer, have come to a dead end on all researches. Oh well at least I tried. The only other info on his death could of been announced in one of the London newspapers as he was a bit of an important person, but unfortunately the newspapers are not on line and I now live in Spain, do you think if I wrote to Collingdale Newspaper Library they would do a search?
Perhaps someone might give me some advice. Thanks so much for your input.
Maddy.

Hi Misgrace
My late father died in the Berea Nursing Home, Durban, S Africa and somehow or other, I don't think it still exists (I am now out of SA).
There is also the North Ridge Road, Berea, Durban, Cemetery, which is where he was buried. They used to have an on-site grave map, kept by a graveyard keeper in his office there.

Have you seen the Facebook site, "The Global Family of Beste"?
Many members there, Maddy, with similar names to your family names.

Hello Danchaslyn
Thank you for your input, but I do seem to have come up against a brick wall with this one. I have done all the searches on the graveyards for Durban, and I have now no idea who to contact regarding this death.
You are right the nursing home does seem to have gone (google street search). I am wondering now if my aunt had his body bought back to the UK. Nothing on facebook.
Regards Misgrace.

I'm really sorry to hear its proving so difficult to find out further about F V Beste's death in Durban.
The two main daily newspapers of the time would have been The Natal Mercury (morning paper) and The Daily News (the evening paper).
May I suggest you contact the archives section of each for possibly funeral notices, and/or Thanks Notices and even articles on his death, seeing he was a man of some importance?
The Funeral and Thanks notices may well list family and may give an indication of whether he died after a long illness, or whatever?
Cheers
