Title: 1901 Census - Woods
Post by: Manchester on Monday 11 July 11 17:23 BST (UK)
My grandfather Herbert John Woods was born September 2, 1897 in Lambeth. His parents were John Thomas Woods and Amy Alice. For some reason he did not live with his parents but with another relative. Can anyone assist in locating him in the 1901 census.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you found him on the 1911 census - what is the surname of the family he is with and where are they living

The only match I can see on the free 1911 index is living in Hampshire

Was his mother Amy Alice Heath?

There is this marriage on freebmd but it was after 1897

Marriages June qtr 1899

Amy Alice Heath   West Ham 4a 218
John Thomas Woods on same page

However - there is also this one which is a real coincidence given the location and her surname

Marriages September qtr 1897

Amy Heath    West Ham 4a 516
John Woods  on same page

The baptism records show his parents as John Thomas Woods and Amy Alice (no surname). John Thomas Woods and Amy Alice Heath were married after he was born which may explain why he was adopted.
