I have a great grandmother who arrived here in NZ from Prussia around 1876 along with her parents and brother. They were was Anna Bredow 13, Frederick, Wilhelm Reinhold 15, Marie 44 and Rudolph 45. Apparently they arrived here on the Gutenberg from Hamberg (I think) and originally Rudolph was a Farmer in Brandenberg. As I do not speak or understand German I do not know how to go about trying to research them prior to leaving for New Zealand. Can anyone give me ideas please
Many thanks :D

Hiya...if you go to www.geneanet.org ( you can join for free) and put in
Bredow
Brandenburg
there are 7 family trees ...BUT...the name is VON Bredow...could your ancestors have dropped the Von part of their surname when they arrived in NZ ??
5 of those trees are submitted by Peter Hennings in Germany...does the name feature in your tree ?
the other 2 trees are submitted by Jochen Rolcke.....does Rolcke appear in your tree ?
to the left of each tree entry is the username of the submitter...click on this and you will see their e-mail address....good luck
:)

However I will try your suggestions and check that website out........thanks for that and will be interesting to see what comes up
