Title: Electoral Roll / Death. Herbert Lancelot RANDALL-ENGLAND - poss NSW
Post by: stevecleary on Saturday 09 July 11 12:46 BST (UK)
I am looking for any details of a Herbert Lancelot RANDALL-ENGLAND, who lived, I believe in New South Wales from around 1950, sailing from Liverpool, until his death around the late 1970's - certainly before 1980. I am led to believe that he died in NSW, although I don't know the district. Herbert's parents were George Walter and Louise RANDALL. He was born in Bucklow, England in 1915. Last located in 1950 before emigrating. Any ideas as to where I might best look?
Best wishes

Thanks Leanne.
As a further update, I have found out quite a bit about my great-uncle, including getting in touch with some long lost family (a daughter and grand-daughter of Herbert's).
I am now seeking to trace any family that there might be in Australia.
Herbert was born on 15 February 1915 in Altrincham, Cheshire. His elder sister, Violet, was my grandmother. In 1939, he is reputed to have had a son out of wedlock in Woking, England, married a woman in 1942 in Gloucestershire and had a daughter, Gloria in 1944, later divorcing. In 1950, he married a Marion McWilliam in Devon and went out to Australia on 10 Jan 1950 on the Georgic under the name Henry and Marion Randall-England, returning sometime later to the UK. The reason for the name change is possibly connected to having deserted from the Army, where he was an electrical engineer.
On 29 April 1958, Herbert departed London for Sydney on the Strathnaver under the name Herbert Randall, along with a Marion Randall (b 8/4/18) and Alison Randall (who I believe to have been born Dawn Randall-England in Gosport, around September 1952).
I am led to believe that Herbert had some connection with horse breeding, although like many of the colourful events of his life, it is not sure how true this is.
Herbert died on 14 Jun 1977 and was cremated at the Lismore Crematorium And Memorial Gardens. - ref: 104529/1977
If anyone has any information on the family, I would be more than delighted to hear from them, particularly as there are living relatives (including a potential half-sister) and descendants here in the UK who would love to find out more.
I attach a photograph of Herbert on his wedding day in 1942, just in case it jogs anyone's memory.
Best wishes
Steve Cleary
