Title: Plymouth 1804
Post by: stevecleary on Saturday 09 July 11 11:31 BST (UK)
My ggg-grandfather, Joseph BENT, was born in Plymouth c1804. In later censuses, he was listed as a mariner - trouble is, I can't seem to find any indication from birth records (which are post-1837?) as to when exactly he was born. I know from a burial record in 1859 that he was buried in Liverpool as a Roman Catholic, so presumably was born one. Does anyone know where I might find online baptismal records for Catholic churches in the Plymouth area, which might at least give me a start? Any ideas?
Best wishes
Steve Cleary

You need to contact the RC Cathedral at Plymouth [they have a website] as they hold baptism records [a fee is charged for research]

Hi Steve,

Sorry to be replying to your query 5 years late - I have just joined RootsChat and came across your posting.
There is a Joseph Bent b 23 May 1806 in Plymouth, d Apr 1859 in Liverpool in one of our family trees. It seems too much of a coincidence. His father was William Bent and his mother Ellen ?. He married a Jane Ward in 1833 in Liverpool at St.Peter's RC church. He had a younger brother called William Joseph b 1809 d 03 Feb 1875 in Australia who married a Mary Elizabeth Street. Could this be the same person that we are talking about?
