Title: Warrington Cemetery - Plot Locations
Post by: CerocChick on Thursday 07 July 11 09:30 BST (UK)
Hello All

I have just found out the burial locations of several of my RYAN ancestors in Warringon Cemetery.  These are:

Michael Ryan - Buried 11/09/1893 - age 62
Mary Ann Ryan - Buried 22/12/1917 - age 78
John Thomas Ryan (son) - Buried 16/07/1934 - age 65
Sarah Ann Dunn (daughter) - buried 14/01/1956 - age 85

The reference is RC SEC D 480.

Does this mean Roman Catholic Section D plot 480?

What I would like to know is if there is a cemetery "plan" online which shows whereabouts this plot is and would it be a public or private grave with headstone etc.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

I would start by contacting the Cemeteries Dept at Warrington council.

I had a similar query regarding a cemetery and found the local  council staff (Blackburn) very helpful , they emailed me details of the plots, a map and even offered to meet me at the cemetery to help locate a grave.

hello. i have just read your post .the rc stands for roman catholic as the cemetery is in parts for each religion. the secD is the section of the rc part and the 480 is the number of the grave
my relatives are buried very near this part of the cemetery .next time i go if you would like i will look at the grave and let you know what is on the inscription if there is a head stone (quite a lot have none )
warrington are in the process of putting records on line if you google warrington cemetery go to find a grave and put in the info they ask for if you are lucky it will come up
good luck and let me know if you want to take up my offer
regards Marlee

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply

Derek - that site is where I found the grave information - is so exciting when something "pops up" after you've entered all your info and you realise they are the correct people!

Marlee - thank you for your kind offer - that would be very much appreciated when you are next in the area.  I just hope that there is something there as there were 3 family members in the same plot

hi i managed to finally get to Warrington cemetery today. unfortunatly there is no memorial stone for this plot (this is the case with just under half of the cemetery
i sometimes go to Warrington library to look for obituarys for people in the archives of the local papers
next time i go (it will not be for about a month) i will see if i can find an obituary for any of them
i have looked on the 1911 census for Warrington but cannot relate the ages to your Ryans
for example there were two Mary Ann Ryans but neither fitted your dates in 1911 are you sure of their birth dates or maybe in 1911 they were not in Warrington
sorry no memorial maybe they would have had an obituary printed in the local paper.
will be in touch when i have next been to local archives
regards Marlee

Hi Marlee

Thank you so much for taking the time to have a look in the cemetery.  What a shame there was no memorial  :(

I havent got the exact birth dates for Mary Ann (abt 1836) but John Thomas  was born 17/10/1868. In 1911 Mary Ann was living at 21 Heath Lane, Warrington with her widowed daughter Kate Peers and John Thomas was living at 9 Heath Lane with his neice Edith Holmes (nee Peers).

I would very much appreciate it if you do have time when you next go to the library to look up obituaries.

Thanks again

hi. yes its a shame .i was gutted when i found one of my relatives and there was no memorial
i went to the central library in Warrington (where i live) on the off chance they had an obituary in the local paper and to my delight they had.
you get lots of info of an obituary i will certainly look for you when i next go .but it will be in about three weeks time
i have to book a machine as all the info is on microfilm and you have to use machine to read it.
i have taken this up since i retired as i enjoy it and am always happy to look for details of any warrington people
fingers crossed
Marlee :-\
