Title: Newspaper report of an inquest-help required

I have searched in vain for any report of an inquest held 1 Nov. 1916 in Manchester.
Sarah Condon died of shock from burns on 31 Oct. 1916 in Gorton Manchester.
Wm Sellers Coroner was informant on death certificate. if anyone can find any more information I would be very grateful.

If you able to go to the city library they also hold copies of the Gorton Reporter which being a local paper may have reported on the Inquest including details surrounding Sarah's death.

I think when I was there last they are currently only holding the Manchester Evening News/Manchester Guardian until the Refurbishment is completed.

I've checked the Manchester Guardian online but can't see anything.  Sorry.

I really hope you find it but don't be disappointed because when I was searching for an inquest in Salford in 1916 and wasn't been able to find anything, the researcher at Salford library told me that because of the war they were short on newsprint so everything didn't always make it into the paper.

If you know the date of death the inquest will have been held the next day, or at latest the second day after death, due to limited or no means of preserving the body, be prepared too for an extremely lurid and graphic account the the events.Just warning from personal experience.

Have checked the local newspaper at the time namely the Gorton,Openshaw and Bradford reporter but unfortunately to no avail. I did look a couple of weeks either side of 31 October 1916.
I could not find a death notice either.Maybe best to E mail Manchester local studies to see if they have  inquest reports filed . I know that the late 19th century inquest reports have been destroyed but not sure what happens to more recent ones.

They are deposited at the discretion of the Coroner, and then if deposited are usually closed 75 years, which would not apply to a 1916 inquest.
