As Ive had so many enjoyable  days out at Rootschat meets  i thougt I'd try to organise  one in Manchester on the 3rd september.
The itinerary is not quite decided ..there is so much to see and do in the city,,,,,, but   I would like some idea of interest, please.
I will ask for definite numbers nearer the time so as to book meal etc.
Could this be "stickied "please?

We're looking to book into hotel around Deansgate - is that close to venue?

I get lost when I come outside of Piccadilly station! Tho maybe driving easier!

Yes Deansgate is the main road  through manchester.A56.The cathedral is one end  and the museum at the other, with the library in between.
I will be going soon to sus out an eatery, then I'll ask folk to confirm nearer the time..
I think I would check with  the hotel re car parking.,

In answer to Jims Q..I'll do a head count about a week before cos will need to contact the folk at the Cathedral and at the pub, other wise the folk whove said they coming on this thread .At this rate will need a chara.
Everything is along Deansgate (A 56) through manchester...its just under a mile from Cathedral to the Manchester museum.Looking forward to meeting folks.

Title: Re: Manchester Meet 3rd sept
Post by: Jed59 on Tuesday 30 August 11 11:15 BST (UK)
I've confirmed Saturday's meet with the relevant folk, so here is the suggested itinerary.Obviously in the time available its only possible to have a "look see" at the various places, but I hope folk enjoy it.

I will be outside the Cathedral on the main road at 10 am .For those who havent met me I will be carrying a big red umbrella (this has no signifuicance other than to keep the rain off !)
At 10.30 we meet our Guide,  for the tour, which will last about an hour.
For lunch there is the Cathedral cafe opposite or , round the corner, is the wellington Inn and Sinclairs in Shambles Square (google shambles manchester for an interesting read), or indeed numerous other places around.

12.30 reassemble for walk up Deansgate to the Peoples History Museum

1 pm Peoples History Museum
2.....2.15 leave for
2.30 Museum of Science and technology and /or aerospace museum.there is an exhibition of textile machinery at 3 pm.

3.30   leave for John Rylands Library tour at 4 pm

4.30... 6.45  free

6.45 for 7  MOON UNDER WATER on Deansgate.  There is space reserved for us UPSTAIRS  (lift available).

                                                                                        .....................................
FRIDAY EVENING

As a few folk will be staying at the premier Inn ({printworks) on Deansgate;( the link that ggill posted  shows the location.).
over the weekend, it has been suggested that  folk meet them  there for a meal on Friday night,if they wish, as an add on to Saturdays event. i would suggest folk   turn up about 7.30pm....
For folk travelling to piccadilly Station; id suggest getting the Metrolink tram  to victoria station (tram for Victoria or Bury)get ticket before you get on),specially if you dont know manchester)..
Leave the station by the exit near the Tearooms, then follow the road round to the right. keep going till you come to a T junction (Victoria Bridge).
You will see the Premier Inn on the left, across the road.

Im so glad everybody enjoyed themselves.  Hard to say which was my "best bit".. I enjoyed all the venues in different ways,....... but the textile machinery demo was good, and brought back memories,as a lot of my ancestors worked in cotton mils in some of the occupations mentioned. And the Library.
Of course that was just a lick of the ice cream so to speak...:- as I say the main thing is that everybody enjoyed themselves. i know I did...A grand day out in grand company! 8)
