Title: Carshalton 1860-1880
Post by: corkcutter on Saturday 02 July 11 20:41 BST (UK)
Did you have ancestors living in Carshalton between 1860 and about 1880?  I am preparing a book about Carshalton community at that time and would very much like to find photos of individuals of whatever social class  to help illustrate it.

Obviously photography was not that common at the time but examples do exist.  I would be very grateful if you could contact me if you can help.

I live in Carshalton myself but didn't have any ancestors here then, but i have a huge collection of local history books and would be interested in this when it's done :)

Thanks for your interest.  I am still researching, let alone writing up, so there will be nothing out for some while yet.  However, when it is done, there will be copies in Sutton Library and it will be advertised around.

Carshalton local history has been very well covered in terms of buildings etc. and some well-known anecdotes, but I am trying to get a feel for what life was like for the people who lived here.

Yep i know what you mean, i'm looking to do a book on Sutton, but avoiding mostly everything else that's been done, would like to cover some of the 70's & 80's as well.
