Hello! I would greatly appreciate someone with access to census and other records doing a look-up for James STRANG, b. circa 1807, occupation carpenter.
James married Isabella FREW, July 12, 1824, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire.
I have a possible death record for him in 1863, Glasgow, Lanark.
I'm not sure this is correct, as I have a passenger list from the Harwood, disembarked London, 23rd June, 1863, arrived Bluff, Southland, New Zealand on 18 Sept, 1863.
On board were the Strang family (listed as STRANGE), including mother Isabella and a James. Unsure if this is the father or a son.
I have family photos that are thought to be James snr, taken in New Zealand.
Any information very welcome!

Hi Claire and Carole
There is a little bit here on the family - just search for 'james strang' http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gtbannan/pafg04.htm Also, click on the notes under James and wife Isabella's names as there is some more info there.

I think the transcription of James Snr.'s birth place on the family's 1851 census entry has gone slightly awry ::) Never heard of Sholes! FreeCen www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl have it transcribed as Shotts, which does make sense.

Thanks Monica, that's great!
The tree owner doesn't have a complete list of my ancestor Daniel Strang's children - he's missing my direct ancestor, for instance, and I have lots on Daniel's wife Mary Ann's family.
I can't see a way to contact him (Gary Bannan) from those Family Tree pages. Are they an Ancestry.com thing? Does anyone have any ideas? I'd love to share my info with him.

The Home Page from the link I posted seems to have some contact details http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gtbannan/index.htm#TOC
There is also this other descendant here http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=marycotter&id=I95347225
Good luck with making contact :)
