Title: Discharged on Conviction of Felony
Post by: Hanford on Thursday 30 June 11 13:03 BST (UK)
Hello,

I have just found an army record for Ralph Forster born 1878 in Stockton which says he was discharged on conviction of felony in 1905, I was wondering if there is anywhere I could find out about what he actually was charged with?  ???
Thank you  :)

Hi,
The National Archives might be a good place to start your quest. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk.

I'll hazard a guess.. he was convicted in a civil court and subsequently discharged from the army.

Any more details such as where he was based, home town, unit, rank, military id number?

Thank you mrwilson, I'll have a check ( not my old primary school teacher are you?  :D )

It doesn't say where he was based, but he was in 3rd Battalion York and Lancaster regiment no. 9416, then the Duham R.G.A.M no.4378
His hometown was Stockton on Tees and military rank was a private  :)
Did google 3rd battalion York and Lancaster but can't find it  ???

Looks like findmypast.co.uk has rights to his military records.

FORSTER    Ralph b 1877 Stockton on Tees, Durham  WO96 Militia

if you can find out where he was based the local court sessions probably will point to his conviction.

They are militia records so he would have been home based.

That's my man  ;D
It says he is living in North Yard, Crofton, Yorkshire... I'll have a look at their archives when I'm more awake  ;D ;D

Ahh right, brilliant,  thank you  :)  :)
