I have installed software for Samsung PC Studio3 which came with data cable for my Samsung SGH D500 cell phone. The phone is connected ( given information) but software icons are grayed out. Therefore I cannot click on any of the icons. Why has this happened.

Hi,
Try this on your phone... Menu >> Settings >> Connectivity >> Select USB Mode >> PC Studio.
Check also if you have the latest PC studio, 3.01 had a couple of bugs... 3.1 is the latest I think. Maybe pc studio 7 might be an option.

Hi tried what you advised.
Menu>>Settings>>Connectivity>> no USB mode only Bluetooth & Infrared.
Does that mean I have to get ? Bluetooth ? Dongle. Is my phone incompatible
with PC Studio.

When you plug in the usb does your pc recognise your phone being attached?
Maybe your usb driver needs updating..... windows xp?
Unplug your phone from your PC, download the latest Samsung USB driver from http://www.rootschat.com/links/0e1n/.
When you are ready, go to Windows device manager, search for the problem device (phone usb connection), right click and choose Update Driver.
> Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
> From the browse screen navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung PC Studio 3\USB Drivers" (for Winx64) or "C:\Program Files\Samsung\Samsung PC Studio 3\USB Drivers for Winx86".
>Click Next and your device drivers should be found, select and install.
> Restart PC, open pc studio and plug in phone.
Hope this helps.

Pc recognises phone says it is connected. Is it possible that the software I got with data cable is not compatible with phone. Did a search and found for this phone I need Easy Studio 2 Cant find any downloads. I did a scan on Driver Detective reports say Samsung USB Modem is up to date.

Debug Mode - Try typing this into the phone... *#8999*667# > press call then connect usb cable.

Did this. Debug was set to OFF. Cant understand why my pc is recognising phone but cant use Samsung PC Studio. Could it be that my OS Windows XP is not compatible. After debug I connected usb cable but still no luck.

Debug should be set to on. Likely there's something we are missing.. I did have a Samsung e250 that I used pcstudio3 on xp with and recall having initial connection problems.. ??? Connected better via bluetooth.
PC3 was designed for xp and doesn't work with vista etc;
Are you connecting it to a usb 2.0 outlet? (I don't think it will work through a usb hub and mine only worked through rear usb, not front ones.)
Maybe uninstall PC studio and reinstall again, making sure not to connect cable/phone until told to.
Have you tried Samsung customer service?

I deleted Samsung PC Studio 3 ( which came ( cd) with data cable ) I downloaded PC Studio 7. Still not connecting. There is an icon of phone bottom left hand corner ? utility tray? with a red cross on it. I have tried usb ports X2 in front of my pc and at the back. Had a look at Whirlpool as suggested. No luck. What do I look for if I try to use Bluetooth. Are there any in particular I should look for.

First get a bluetooth dongle (about aud $8-10 ) and load software that comes with it..turn on phone bluetooth and 'pair' ..make sure your phone is set to stay on . From here you should be able to exchange files.
